Old saved games after the patch

In the official info concerning the patch installation, it says that old saved games will no longer work after the 1.1 patch is installed.
I've installed the patch, rebooted the PC, and loaded an old saved game.
The old saved game seems to play ok, although it did fail to load the strategy map once after a tactical battle, and crashed to desktop. Only once though.
The battles, from the old saved game, appear to play alright, but they seem to be noticably slower after the patch.
So are the old saved games supposed to work after the patch, or not ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

They may or may not play, but the problem is that many changes went into the engine, that will inevitably cause incompatibilites and corruptions.

Yeah lots of save games don't work now. For instance, if you're in the High era currently, and have some units that are only supposed to appear in the Late era, chances are you're game will be corrupt. It happened to me, I only tried one savegame, after that, just reinstalled and started over.

Ya some of the stuff might be wierd like how some units are now not available to different periods.
