Thank you for spreading this worthy news.

While it's redolent with a (justifiable) bias that the game is BROKEN, it's not a bad idea. Might help if CA could venture what avenues are actually open to them, otherwise the wishlists are a bit futile.

It's a very biased survery though I have to say I agree with a lot of the questions asked but do not really feel able to answer them without also sounding like the hordes of people crying about everything. The game has its strong points but it seems to me that the negative ones outweigh the positive ones and CA's decision to go ahead with the game as they envisioned it makes me feel as if they never actually cared and/or listened to what any of their core fans actually like.

The funny thing is, I probably don't consider myself a core or loyal fan anymore but that's been the case since I played Empire and Napoleon, both of which just took all the excitement I felt since playing Medieval 2. Shogun 2 was a step in the right direction, simple, easy to understand, pretty, polished but lacking the diversity of older games but that is mainly because of the period/choice in geographical location.

The main thing that made me look forward to Rome 2 was the size of the campaign map and the faction diversity but after playing the game for some amount of time, there really is none of that. Factions have unique unit rosters but what's the difference between Oathsworn and Legionaries other than looks? I don't know, maybe it is right, maybe that is how it was but it feels meh. The graphics are nice though *not very motivated cheer*
I honestly don't feel like buying anything else from this franchise because I don't like the way they've taken it.

I took it... wish they had a comment section to reinforce certain thoughts

Took it too, but felt the survey was very biased: plus several of the improvements I desire most were not mentioned. Examples: #1, making the darned thing more difficult (way more difficult) on legendary/very hard and especially during mid-game/late-game; #2, fixing the campaign ai (so it does not aimlessly cruise the seas, leave its settlements undefended when at threat (or not), etc.); #3, putting some script into place that would allow some major AI powers [I am talking about powers rivaling player's size (30-60 regions would be nice for starters), not some 10 region "large" AI's...] to develop during mid-game, late-game; #4 if number 3 is impossible allow solid AI alliance blocks develop during mid-game; these should hate the player to the death and proactively attack, tamper with player's progress; #5 (but not least) fix the darned siege assault AI...

The lack of negative answers for some questions regarding the family tree was a problem. I'm perfectly happy to see the back of that useless system.

CA made me feel like i had a date to the prom with the pretiest girl in skool, we went out, had a blast of a night and then she invited me over to her place. But after I unwrapped the giftpaper she came in, I found out that she was actually... a dude. I cried softly as I let him **** me in the ***. Turned out that he and his friends made a bet to see if I was actually so stupid that I would fall for this thing again. And then I remembered what I had hidden away deep down, that the same thing had happened last year. And the year before that, and before that...

If I get AIDS it is probably CA's way of saying "Thank you! Thank you for buying every TW game and expansion we have released so far. But if you did that, then you are most likely too old to be in the group we target... But hey, you can always dream, you won't be the only one."

This is quite possibly the greatest post I have read on this forum so far.

I liked the survey, it felt like it gave plenty of graded options and my annoyances and praises were all listed.

Hi there. The survey creator meanwhile reacted to the complaints about being a biased survey and adjusted the terms and captions used within. For me I can say it is fine now. BTW 1% of all participants came from ORG... +3 % and your are challenging TWC :)

The Stranger
12-14-2013, 13:25
do you mean the results from .org are different from those of TWC? are the results from here more positive than the average or less?

It is interesting survey. I took it but I still feel the desired features related questions did not really speak to me. Rather than a skip the question choice I would prefer an option to say "none of these matter" to me or " these not really important" etc. Skipping is not really an answer. I really could care less about family tree an I am fairly satisified with most of the features it is the bugs and ai issues that need work. I want seasons and a clearer political system but otherwise I have enjoyed the innovations added to this game and seasons would lengthen the character lifespan allowing us to take better advantage of the traits system without resorting to mods.

Oh and I would like a more easily managed naval combat system. I still cannot get the hang of it compared to empire/napoleon. Of course I stink at shogun 2 naval battles too so perhaps it's just me.

You know what's kind of silly? I feel like an idiot when I speak up about the ridiculous AI issues that have been around since I have started playing these games but somewhere along the line, I got conditioned into telling myself "It's a TW game, of course the AI is gonna suck, if you think otherwise, you're stupid so stop telling people the AI sucks!"

This is why TW veterans become CA apologists. Before release I said "this game is looking like it will be a disaster, especially given CA's history" but they said "No this game is going to be amazing!"

But what they really meant in there heads was that the game will be terrible on release and slowly get better and perhaps with mods morph into a good game. But they knew the AI will always be broken and bad, because that is what they expect from a CA game.

We both thought exactly the same thing, they just used the same evidence I used to damn game, to defend the game, and their defense was ridiculous and silly, as you pointed out.

It is all about expectations. If you honestly expect CA to produce a polished professional product (as they should), anywhere near the level of what Valve or Blizzard would produce, you're dead wrong. RedHarvest got it right when he said (in reference to the first RTW): "RTW isn't a game, it's a do-it-yourself project." RTW: II didn't change that. If you expected it to be a do-it-yourself project with terrible AI and questionable design features, then perhaps it is amazing. And I, like many others, enjoying modding greatly, so these projects can be fun. But if you expect CA to make a good game (and CA advertises their products as games), then CA will never stop letting you down.

lars573
12-14-2013, 19:14
They've delivered quite a few good games.

fallen851
12-14-2013, 19:49
They have no competition for the genre, so their games are by default the best and worst. Though at this point, we can at least compare RTW I to RTW II. I believe RTW I is a much more rich and rewarding game (with mods) than RTW II will ever be. I don't like how armies are created, I don't like the city battles, I miss my family tree, guard mode and fire at will, I don't like the unit abilities, I don't like the naval battles, I don't like the unit collision and I don't like the political system. Some of that can be redeemed perhaps with mods, patches and DLC's. Some of it is poor game design. Comparing RTW I and II is like comparing Diablo 2 and 3. Diablo 2 is a much better game all around, while Diablo 3 is streamlined to death, but has nice graphics.

And I wasn't saying TW games are total crap, they are fun. But we know all the potential of a TW game. We always try to realize it with mods... but CA never gets there, and we never quite get there with mods. So I always feel like I'm playing something that could be so much better if CA put more time into the game and listened to the community...

yup, except the sad story is that the majority of casual gamers dont care that units are called silver pikemen instead of argyraspidai. they wont notice that egypt at the time wasnt the mummy returns or that it would be extremely difficult to pelt armored soldiers to death with skulls of your fallen foes :/

but this time i think they really screwed it up because the game was just unfinished, so even the casuals cant really play it.

mtw was awesome. rtw was awesome with mods. i skipped stw2 sadly but i heard its pretty good. and i already said what i think about rome2 :/ its just a lie from their part and thats unacceptable, no matter how many FreeLC they give away.

is there a place where the results of the survey are made public?

Great work! I'd personally pay 2 euro for an extended soundtrack. Soundtrack DLCs for CKII are around that price and they are actually expensive to produce.

If they hire Paul Anthony Romero to do some new stuff for the Rome II soundtrack I will sacrifice a goat to Apollo in their honour.
