Hello.

MTW has won Respawns Best Strategy Game of 2002 in this years awards. The full text can be found at the link below.

I would like to add that the users protest regarding bugs has been noted and mentioned. However as we point out in the awards, last years game of the year winner also suffered from similar problems yet went on to greater things last year and again this year.

We believe Medieval Total War will too and would like to thank the team behind the game for fun we have had on it since its release.

The Respawn teams primary interest is in Strategy games so for the Respawn team this award is the one we look forward to the most. We have a huge amount of experience of other strategy games so this award extra special to us.

Well done CA.

MTW has a strategy aspect to it - but your review concentrates solely on the tactical aspect - via a commentary on a MP game.

You didn't award it the best "Strategy" because of the tactial aspects did you??

I hope not - there's at least one far better tactical game out there in terms of detail, graphics, ease of use and atmosphere - Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin leaves MTW dead in those areas, even if you're not a tank-head, so it seems like a very odd way to make an award.......

(I'm not trying to compare they games - to me they are different genres - pre-gunpowder (more or less) nd mechanised warfare - long may they both live http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

Valid Points mate but everything is just an opinion after all and what some called a strategy game others would not.

However, the award text is not Respawns review. That can be found else where on the site. The text and the style used in the review is there soley to give the reader a taste of the excitement felt whilst playing the game.

Respawn is a players site and all it's staff are all players too. We there for have a much deeper understanding of the games we play than most commercial reviewer that are given new games to review every day. We are far more critical than those sites and much more free to express our selves when a company like CA does something right.

Also I have not personally seen the game you speak off but I would like to state that we are keen on keeping first person games of a tactical or strategic nature seperate from the MTW style of strategy game. Though this is much harder these days as the lines between games become blarred.

However, if a fellow strategy fan firmly believes another game is good then I definately want to hear more about it.

Just for the record, ignoring the strategic side of single player. MTW's Strategy starts at the unit select screen and moves onto deployment. However you are right in that we highlighted the tactical elements more than the strategic elements in are award text.
