View Full Version : EB2 Playtest: Arverni
Here's a little Christmas present from the hard working EB2 Team to all those who have waited patiently these many years.....a short playtest of the Arverni faction. You've seen eye candy aplenty. Won't it be cool to actually see some of it in action? Here's the sitrep:
Faction: Arverni
Difficulty: medium-medium
Starting Provinces: 1
Starting Army: 4 FMs, 2 Cav, 7 Foot
Strategy: For this playtest I took a quick look at the financial details and noticed the "not unusual" EB1 situation of a poor faction with expenses roughly 4 times larger than income. The EB1 strategy would be to quickly conquer a few settlements (for a total of 3 or 4), and then play defense while recuperating from the huge negative income (a process that can often take many years). That should work right? How different can this be?
Here's the starting position. The capital (Gergouia) has 5 of my 13 units, with the rest sprinkled among three small stacks scattered across the home province of Ikoranda Uolkias. There's a small Aedui stack to the south - we're at war (what else is new?), and they don't care for us much. That's OK, the feeling's mutual. To the east is a small ungarrisoned rebel town - big mistake for those guys. Out of sight in Cisalpine Gaul, my diplomat and spy are off visiting family for the holidays. Put down the wine skins boys, we need you back home! Because somewhere to the north is the Aedui homeland, and it would be nice to see what's going on up there!
https://img20.imageshack.us/img20/267/x89o.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/20/x89o.jpg/)
Here's my Faction Leader, Aneirin Aruernorigon, and his bad-ass bodyguard of 94 "Fierce Swords". I'd say the town of Lugdunon is ready to join with us, the "Superior Ones":
https://img849.imageshack.us/img849/1122/8e0d.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/8e0d.jpg/)
It's only a village, scarcely more than a few scrawny cows and some old women & children. We'll pass on the crazed looting and incorporate them (relatively) peacefully into the Arverni fold.
https://img46.imageshack.us/img46/5959/hr0g.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/46/hr0g.jpg/)
Now this is interesting. Some of the farmers in Lugdunon were overheard discussing the upcoming market days in the "nearby town of Uiennos", and sure enough our scouts confirmed the story. However, Diplomat "Barri" (wearing some god-awful duds that will absolutely get him laughed out of the next council meeting) passed through and reports that this particular target won't be easy pickings. At least seven defending units including Bataroi, Savage Riders, Fierce Swords, Spearmen and Noble Cavalry. On the other hand, this is Gaul and easy targets are few and far between. If the Arverni are going to expand the kingdom quickly, the best way to do it is by snapping up nearby settlements. High King Aneirin makes his decision:
"Summon all men from across the land - we will take this town from those Raetic dogs!"
https://img850.imageshack.us/img850/4126/it8w.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/850/it8w.jpg/)
The command from the north is unwelcome news to Belenos oi Lugos. His small army of 5 has been tracking a group of 3 Aedui raiders through southern Gaul and finally is positioned to attack them. But he does not know the composition of the enemy force. His lightly armed group of skirmisher cavalry and slingers could be in deep trouble if the enemy prove to be hardened spear or swordsmen. Casualties could prove heavy, and every man will be needed for the storming of Uiennos. And ultimately, Belenos is "Loyal" and "Reliable". Men with those traits do not disobey the orders of the King! Ignoring the grumbling of his men, Belenos marches them north east toward Uiennos.
https://img202.imageshack.us/img202/2391/pvu6.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/202/pvu6.jpg/)
Amminos oi Lugos, the leader of the Gergouia garrison, knows that "All men from across the land" includes his troops. There's only two Bataroi in the whole Kingdom, and they'll be needed if the attack on Uiennos is to succeed. Even one of the two slingers will have to go if victory is to be assured. That will strip the defenders to the bone, but it can't be helped. Amminos feels a certain disquiet in his bones, but after all this should only take two seasons...three at the outside.
https://img163.imageshack.us/img163/4900/vwyg.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/163/vwyg.jpg/)
All available troops are positioned within a season's march of Uiennos, and as Spring nears an end the Financial situation of the Kingdom is - as expected - not the best. We're building a new Arverni Allied government in Ludunon, while in Gergouia a road network is under construction and a new Bataroi is five turns away from joining our forces. Yes debt beckons, but that was ever the need, ever the risk, ever the only option in EB1. So then, so now.....
https://img842.imageshack.us/img842/9615/5esy.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/842/5esy.jpg/)
It is high summer (Turn 2) and the siege of Uiennos has begun. The Arverni have the advantage in units (9 to 7), but the Raetians make up for that in quality. This could be close. In the meantime, where is that Spy! We need intelligence...what are the Aedui doing along the northern border?
https://img713.imageshack.us/img713/462/lcmu.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/lcmu.jpg/)
Conan arrives in Lugdunon at last, full of excuses as always. King Aneirin will have none of it, "Don't waste my time you lazy cur, off to the North and return quickly with news of the Aedui!" And this he does, but the information is unsettling. An 8 unit Aedui army is only a short distance to the North of Gergouia, but fortunately appears to be fixated on the rebel city of Auarikon. Meanwhile in the Aedui capital of Bibracte, a smaller 5 unit army serves as garrison. Portions of either could prove dangerous to the Arverni capital, but perhaps time is yet on our side. It matters little however - the die is cast, Uiennos is under siege and MUST be taken. But given the size of the Aedui forces, it's more imperative than ever to try and minimize casualties.
https://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1053/g1tl.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/268/g1tl.jpg/)
Summer comes to a close, and across the land preparations begin for the harvests to come. The Arverni finances are poor.
https://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3461/cs04.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/690/cs04.jpg/)
As the nights lengthen and the air grows chill (Turn 3), a new Toutarjo government is established in Lugdunon. Not the best long term choice as far as High King Aneirin is concerned, but it will keep the populace content until such time as finances and troop strength have improved, and this tribe can be bound closer.
https://img580.imageshack.us/img580/9150/s3fw.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/580/s3fw.jpg/)
But graver news arrives from the West. The Aedui raiders from the South, those self same men whom Belenos let slip so as to follow the King's Command, have appeared unlooked for in the river valley south of Gergouia. Conan - summoned in haste from the north, is able to skirt the enemy forces and confirm 2 Bataroi and a slinger. These are superior to the capital's garrison, but perhaps not too much so. These Aedui are not led by those of Noble Blood and may yet bypass the city, or perhaps dither and delay while awaiting orders from the North.
The High king ponders his choices. The Arverni troops at Uiennos have finished their ram and could attack, but word has already reached them of death and attrition among the defenders. Perhaps one more season of siege will reduce the risk and bring a less costly victory. Yes, Aneirin will wait. Ever his instincts have proven true. Surely they will not fail him now. But in the far reaches of his mind, a thought rises, unbidden..."Winter Aneirin! Winter is coming!"...he forces it back. Cold and chill, what of it?
https://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6302/9oe6.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/9oe6.jpg/)
In all his 54 years, the confidence of the High King had never been shaken, but this news was ill indeed. Messengers had arrived from the hills above Gergouia. The Aedui had not dithered, had not passed it by. His capital city was under siege. But there was more....and it was worse......
https://img856.imageshack.us/img856/9724/p2v3.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/856/p2v3.jpg/)
For three long seasons now, the Arverni King had been unable to pay those who served in his armies. Nor had there been raiding, pillaging, or sacking of cities to serve as a substitute. The bonds of personal service are strong among the Celts, but less so at the very bottom of the social pyramid. And so, hungry, freezing, fearing for the safety of distant farms and family, the men who comprised the 5 slinger units - almost 40% of the Arverni Army - had simply melted away with the first coming of the snows.
Which meant the narrow advantage held by the besiegers at Uiennos had been lost - flipping from 9 on 7 to 6 on 7. Once word reached the defenders, surely they would sally, and then all would be lost. To give up? To walk away? To lose all when victory was within reach? This was a bitter cup from which Aneirin could not, would not drink. He stood, and the old battle fires gleamed once again in his eyes. Reaching for his sword and summoning his faithful Gargokladioi, the High King cried out, "To me! We march to join our brothers outside the walls of Uiennos! And tonight we shall drink to our Victory in the Halls within!"
https://img9.imageshack.us/img9/5761/ioiv.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/9/ioiv.jpg/)
Sleep beckons, and I must answer. So tomorrow then, we shall see what fortune and fate hold in store for our brave Arverni brethren......
And yes, there at last you will see warriors in action. The time for talking is at an end.
Outstanding! Can't trust those Aedui!

Thank you very much for this! Its great to at last see EB2 put together and doing its magic! :2thumbsup:
The Klappagnetoi deserted because of winter?! I don't remember ever seing that happening in other mods, its a new Eb2 feature? How does it work?
Btw, why does the High King have a bodyguard of Gargokladioi? Are they goint to be Arverni stardard early bodyguards or just for him? And why Gargokladioi (medium swordsman) instead of a better armoured unit like Botoroi, Kombaragoues or Argoi?
Ayway, keep it coming, I'm loving it!
Its looking bloody great, I am really looking forward to the general release. Rome 2 has been such a huge disappointment that EB2 for me is now THE ancient world game I crave. Keep up the great work guys you are putting the so called professionals that made Rome 2 to shame.

The High King leaves Lugdunon empty of all Arverni troops and joins the besiegers at Uiennos:
https://img21.imageshack.us/img21/830/1wy9.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/21/1wy9.jpg/)
The assault begins. Odds are not the best, but brave hearts will surely overcome simple numbers!
https://img571.imageshack.us/img571/6438/62zm.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/571/62zm.jpg/)
Snow swirls around them as the high king and his Gargokladioi approach the walls of Uiennos:
https://img28.imageshack.us/img28/3972/g99o.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/28/g99o.jpg/)
Bataroi batter down the walls:
https://img845.imageshack.us/img845/9271/enuq.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/845/enuq.jpg/)
The Raetians stand well back from the walls, and wait until the Arverni infantry enter and begin to move down the glacis toward them. Only then do they unleash a storm of sling stones and javelins, stunning the leading Bataroi. At which point the Raetian Savage Swords and Savage Riders fall upon them with all the fury their name suggests:
https://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5205/u545.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/593/u545.jpg/)
Behind the Arverni infantry, cavalry under the command of Faction Heir Adcobrovatos and the trusty Belenos surge along the walls, seeking a path toward the rear of the force confronting the King and his infantry. But the road is blocked by the Lord of Uiennos and his Noble Cavalry. The Arverni do not delay, and hurl themselves upon the enemy - numbers are in our favor here, surely the contest will be swiftly decided!
https://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6356/rxb9.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/69/rxb9.jpg/)
But these Raetian horsemen are fighting for their homes and families - and the eye of their Lord is ever upon them. They do not quail, nor do they retreat - yet with every Arverni thrust, the Noble Cavalrymen see their numbers diminish.....but slowly...ever so slowly. And at last the Lord of Uiennos is cut off, surrounded....and falls! Only now do the last remnants of his bodyguard flee, but is there time yet for Adcobrovatos and his horsemen to save the day?
https://img440.imageshack.us/img440/471/6irn.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/6irn.jpg/)
Suddenly a trumpet sounds loudly from back near the breach. Can it be? The High King summoning aid? There is no time now to wander twisting paths through this unknown town - Adcobrovatos and his horsemen give off the pursuit and turn back. But is it too late? On the slopes of the glacis, the Raetian infantry surge forward, surrounding the High King and his remaining defenders:
https://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1859/54qy.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/838/54qy.jpg/)
Racing toward the field of battle, the Arverni horsemen are confronted by a terrible vision - the strewn bodies of hundreds of their compatriots. Ahead, King Aneirin is surrounded and almost alone, swinging his sword amidst a sea of enemies:
https://img547.imageshack.us/img547/3432/cby8.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/547/cby8.jpg/)
A spear in the back! And the High King of the Arverni - the only king many of these men have ever known - crumples to the ground, his sword falling from his hand and the stillness of death stealing over his features. With a strangled cry in his throat and a white hot fury seething from his heart, Adcobrovatos - King Adcobrovatos - strikes his horse and leads the charge into the melee:
https://img835.imageshack.us/img835/7724/fk79.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/835/fk79.jpg/)
Spurring his horse into the midst of his enemies, lashing out furiously on all sides, the new High King of the Arverni is a stirring sight in the eyes of his remaining troops. But the fury of the few, no matter how intense, is a poor shield against the confidence and skill of the many. Raetian spearmen hold their ground, and the wild career of the Arverni horsemen brings only their own slaughter. The reign of King Adcobrovatos is brief. Within minutes he is struck down and - unable to rise - is speared again and again. As the Arverni hesitate, a fresh unit of Raetian Savage Horse attack up the slope and send the last of our troops fleeing in panic and grief:
https://img543.imageshack.us/img543/8981/qdou.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/543/qdou.jpg/)
It is a crushing defeat:
https://img703.imageshack.us/img703/8875/dh1u.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/703/dh1u.jpg/)
Is that custom portraits i see? :)
As they ride away from Uiennos, the last survivors cast covert glances at Belenos, their new High King. But "High King" of what? Ahead lies empty Lugdunon, but it is home to none of them, and likely to rise in revolt at any moment - woe to any Arverni trapped inside should that occur! And what of Gergouia and the rest of their homeland? Overrun by Aedui dogs. There is no fight left in them, and Belenos can see and almost smell it - for he recognizes the same dark despair within his own soul. "I am not your King. Go back to your hearths and your women and your children. Save what you can, and may Lugos forgive us all". And turning his horse, Belenos rides off to the East, alone.

So EB2 its not going to be an walk in the park I see :P
I really enjoyed the (short) story, thank you very much!
Btw, my belief that the High King should have a stronger bodyguard than medium swordsman, no matter how fierce was confirmed, I gess :P But I suppose the team must have its reasons for that choice.
PS: The 2D art rocks!
It is a cold and bitter winter day in Gergouia, and becomes more so when the defenders recognize the two heads hurled over the wall. Amminos reads the message nailed to the skull of Aneirin, and his spirits, already low, sink further, "Enjoy your reign".
https://img833.imageshack.us/img833/5787/b1cl.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/833/b1cl.jpg/)
Spring comes at last, and with it a warming both physical and mental for the grim defenders of Gerguoia. Lugdunon remains, tenuously, part of the Arverni Kingdom. Their cautious leaders await the outcome of events in the Arverni homeland - for now at least they bide their time and contribute nominal amounts to offset the large debt. But other news is better still. Lookouts on the walls confirm that the enemy force is depleted - their slingers too have deserted, perhaps to plant their fields, perhaps from lack of pay, perhaps from overconfidence. Whatever the reason, the sight of fewer besiegers brings new life into the hearts of the citizenry. Newly confident, many of his guardsmen implore High King Amminos to lead them into battle. The High king ponders, but in the end decides to wait. Perhaps more desertions may come? And what of the many who marched East under the Banners of Aneirin - surely all could not have been lost?
https://img849.imageshack.us/img849/1518/mcfr.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/mcfr.jpg/)
But the timing of battle is not left in the hands of King Amminos. Cries from the walls alert the defenders to activity in the Aedui camp. The Bataroi have marshalled and even now are pushing a ram toward Gergouia!
https://img826.imageshack.us/img826/2276/7p81.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/826/7p81.jpg/)
The Acus Eporedoi, the Horse Guard of High King Amminos, gather quickly in the center of town.
https://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6629/e6k3.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/9/e6k3.jpg/)
Amminos has known most of these men all their lives, and is well aware of their battlefield strengths and weaknesses. The horses are fast and nimble, and the men skilled with javelins - not for them a fight within the confined streets of Gergouia. Turning, he surveys the men. A few nervous, some grim, but most are eager, jostling, exchanging boasts and insults - the long wait finally over at last. Amminos clears his throat, loudly, heads turn toward him, the voices die down....
"So these Aedui dogs think us beaten already? That somehow odds of 3 to 1 grant them victory before the first sword strikes and the first javelin flies? Listen to their songs and shouts. Listen as they loudly boast of their plans to kill our children and take our wives for their own. Well my brothers, today we will show the Aedui once again to be the greatest of liars. We wait not for them within these walls, but will charge forth and show them the true mettle of Arverni men and Arverni steeds. Think not that Death awaits us, for today we are his collectors! Death charges each of you to deliver unto him five heads apiece - and greater glory still for those who bring more! Ride now and ride well and together we shall ride into the eternal Annals as Heroes of the Arverni!"
https://img13.imageshack.us/img13/739/w35h.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/13/w35h.jpg/)
man, this should be a form of torture :clown:
seriously, this is amazing. looking forward to the Beta with renewed vigor!
The Arverni horsemen wheel past the startled Bataroi, hurling javelins. Then they make a sudden turn and race in on the attack!
https://img713.imageshack.us/img713/2628/2ybl.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/713/2ybl.jpg/)
Amminos pulls his men quickly out of the melee, racing back along the wall out of enemy javelin range. The Aedui take advantage of the respite and push the ram almost to the gate. Which is when the Arverni hurl themselves once more at the enemy. So far casualties are remarkably light - only one horseman is down while over 20 Bataroi breathe no more. But the Arverni javelins are almost gone.....
https://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8700/mye7.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/4/mye7.jpg/)
Repeatedly, the Acus Eporedoi wheel and charge, wheel and charge. But all the while the Bataroi hammer at the gate with their ram. Finally, when the gate is 95% broken, the last 20 Bataroi break and run! The Arverni horse sprint off in pursuit, spears held low....
16 of their number lie trampled amidst the spring flowers surrounded by the broken corpses of over 60 Bataroi. So far the Arverni have held up their end of "Death's Bargain".
https://img547.imageshack.us/img547/7830/slbf.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/547/slbf.jpg/)
But they do not pursue far...or for long. A fresh unit of Bataroi and their laggard captain are heading for the ram, intent on finishing the job at the Gate!
https://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8080/i3kv.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/28/i3kv.jpg/)
Amminos directs his men out of javelin range of the oncoming Bataroi, and then calls a brief halt. The men are very tired, verging on exhaustion. And the battle is only half won. They wait for the Bataroi to reach the ram and give it their full attention. Amminos motions with his spear and the Acus Eporedoi begin to walk, then trot, break into a canter, and finally hit their stride as they plunge into the rear of the Aedui. They spar briefly and then Amminos signals the retreat. They have caused some casualties...but not many. "Sukellos, Great God of War - if ever the Arverni have needed your aid, that time is now! Bring forth your hammer and help us sweep this foe from the field, and our people will build you a temple such as has never been seen before!"
https://img827.imageshack.us/img827/9947/l97t.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/l97t.jpg/)
As the sun drops ever lower in the west, so to it seems do the fortunes of the Arverni. Once again they retreat, then turn, and see the Gate shiver and shake with each new blow. It sags - and knowing that one more strike will surely finish it - and seeing the Aedui shifting their attention in anticipation of the fall.....Amminos signals his men to make one, last desperate charge. The exhausted horses can barely trot, but as they reach the Aedui line, Amminos sees that Captain Periadoc has stumbled while evading an Arverni spear. His shield down, it is all the opening that Amminos needs, and drives his spear deep into the chest of the stricken Aedui Captain. For one brief moment, the Bataroi lose heart as their captain tumbles to the earth, but then....
https://img20.imageshack.us/img20/5660/4t5j.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/20/4t5j.jpg/)
The Gate crashes open! With fresh resolve, the 44 remaining Bataroi drive off the Arverni and enter the city. Amminos can only watch....his men can barely lift their spears and the horses can do no more. "Time! I must find a way to buy us some TIME!"
https://img571.imageshack.us/img571/807/qk3r.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/571/qk3r.jpg/)
At last! Celts that don't wear identical trousers!
The variety of clothing and shield patterns is fantastic! The battle scenes look wonderful. You've done a magnificent job.
A few of the Acus Eporedoi, unable to bear the sight of enemy troops entering their gates, move toward the Aedui at a walk. The Bataroi halt at the gate, face about, and begin hurling javelins. Amminos has the germ of an idea, and keeps a few of his men moving, at a walk, tempting the Aedui to advance and to throw, always staying just at the edge of deadly range. 2 men are lost, but a little time is bought, and the horsemen are no longer exhausted. Tiring of this game, the Bataroi turn, enter the gates, and sprint down the dirt track leading toward the heart of Gergouia. But Amminos and his men are right behind, and hit them hard just as the Aedui are reaching the town square.
https://img15.imageshack.us/img15/3990/b68g.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/15/b68g.jpg/)
But the men are too tired - in the melee that follows, seven horsemen are slain, taking only three of the enemy with them. It is too much to ask of tired men, and Amminos sounds the retreat. The Aedui at first are confident - they hold the center of town. But now what? Their leader is dead, the populace is hostile, and the Acus Eporedoi control access to the broken gate. The Bataroi periodically charge, but always Amminos moves his horsemen out of range. The Aedui pursue their little game of attack-retreat, but it is ineffectual and all the while the Arverni grow stronger and more confident while their enemies become less so with every passing minute. At last, their strength completely renewed, Amminos leads the charge. "Sukellos! Bring your mighty hammer down upon this foe! With your aid we cannot fail!"

I note that the battle UI remains unchanged. A work in progress, I presume?
The Aedui still hold a 2-to-1 advantage and mass at the edge of the town square. But the sight of the rapidly approaching horsemen, the shaking of the ground beneath their feet, the thought of how many of their own have already fallen - well, it's too much for some of the Bataroi. The line splinters as men begin to edge back, and some panic, turning to run. The loss of cohesion is just enough. The Acus Eporedoi blast through the line spearing and jabbing at all before them. In moments the panic has spread like wildfire and all sense of duty is gone. The Bataroi turn and run for their lives....and in so doing, forfeit them.
https://img571.imageshack.us/img571/7167/0k3w.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/571/0k3w.jpg/)
The last two invaders are chased down beyond the walls. And just like that, it is over. A weary, bloodstained Amminos rides among his men, and listens gratefully to the cheers rising up.....first from his troops and then, in a growing crescendo, from every corner of Gergouia. This was truly a Heroic Victory, but the Arverni as a tribe are far from secure. Much, much, MUCH more remains to be done!
https://img545.imageshack.us/img545/7231/grqf.jpg (https://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/545/grqf.jpg/)
And that is a pretty good place to bring this little playtest to an end. I can promise you that everything you just saw was not scripted in any way. This was real EB2, played out on the campaign map, using the current Arverni 272BC start position. This was the beginning of a (currently) 7 season test game I ran on 12/24, and the only thing I've done differently here is to "go back" and get some screen shots. At the time I was just testing out the Arverni and literally had no idea what was about to occur.
Obviously everything you saw here comes from the work of many, many, many people - some who've invested a sizable portion of their lives - in order to get this project where it is today. But don't be deceived. We still have quite a bit more to do before the mod is ready for it's alpha release.
That said, EB2 is coming. And it's kick-ass fun to play! :2thumbsup:

nice work and thanks we´re still waiting for the game
now for the batlefield analises you are not a great general :X
why does the spy take 2 turns before reaching gergovia his starting position should be fixed
also kings should ride horses perhaps we can finally get to pick the units our generals lead instead of having it assigned to us
in a general mobility is important
with proper planing the 3rd city could have been easily taken (by sieging it with lower numbers and having perhaps a 2nd army hiden in the forests around it )
eleutheroi get noble cavalary for their generals and our generals have to walk to the batlefield ? now this is something i enjoy a good challange
what made the slingers desert ? was it the lack of money or being in a foreign land while they are still green troops ?

Don't stop now, you bastard! :wall:
In all seriousness: it looks amazing! A job well done to all the people involved in this wonderfull project!
also kings should ride horses
And they don't? :inquisitive:
I note that the battle UI remains unchanged. A work in progress, I presume?
Almost everything you see is a work in progress. The encouraging part is that it's finally coming together as a playable game.

I was surprised by the diplomat and spy since I remember someone showcasing new models for the Gallic agents. I suppose they just haven't been integrated into the build yet.
I also noticed that the settlement of Ludgunon wasn't included in the released map. I sincerely hope that a province wasn't stripped from an already empty area just to add a piss poor village to Gaul. It's overcrowded as it is.
*Drooling* Just wow. Very excited for the first release over here...
All my regards to everyone on the team, you are all our heroes :)

I had never seen that before! After the King and the Faction Heir were killed in battle, the code sequence apparently determines the next logical candidate and plugs him in as the new King. But if, at the same time he is ALSO part of a defeated army that's slated for "melting away" (i.e. all are eliminated from the map), well, the new King is announced and then he disappears. Pretty sure there wasn't a subsequent "killed" message. And after a brief delay, a new box drops down, announcing the new king. Can't recall ever going through 4 different Faction Leaders in a single turn, either. Just one of many things that made this particular playtest such a good candidate for an AAR-type preview.

That's super weird. Potentially cool but weird. I thought maybe you drove him into exhile purposefully or something haha

I am very grateful you did.
Are the corrections not integrated?
If so could you guys direct me to them?
