As I read these notes I find myself asking 'why flaming javelins and HAs haven't been addressed yet?' Have we all just gotten used to this absurdly childish feature? Not only is CA's justification to add it to the game utter nonsense, but it absolutely cripples the AI's ability to effectively use skirmishers in land battles that have access to flaming shot as they default to this mode and get completely slaughtered in shootouts with player units not using that garbage.

I routinely see after-battle results where AI peltasts/skirmishers using flaming shot get pitifully negligible kills (sometimes none), it's getting to the point where I don't even care if my units turn their backs towards them when flanking the AI's main battle line. :rtwno:

But you need them for naval battles.

No you don't. It was all ramming and stuff anyways.

There was another small update to 8.1 today, mostly addressing a multiplayer issue I believe.

Pretty sure those childish features won't get fixed. I think most people are coming to the conclusion that R2TW is a pretty bad TW game. CA lied with their hype, they lied about "weekly" patches, they lied about the AI, they lied about the optimization and they've just strung people along with their lies. And where is that guide to politics you promised us CA? Maybe you need to actually implement a half decent and understandable political system first, that doesn't just disappear after a CW... the game just feels lifeless and broken to me. If I worked for CA, I would have quit before the release the R2TW. I take pride in my work, and I wouldn't have my next to this game. I wish CA developers would take some pride too. Instead, they just string us all along, a bunch of business men pretending to be game developers trying to suck the last penny out of each of us. It was all about the money and meta critic score from the start.

Is R2TW a bad game? No, when looked at alone, if it is the only TW you've ever played it's a decent game. But when compared to RTW, even with all it's flaws, and the mods it spawned, it is rubbish. And that was 10 years ago. In 10 years, this is how far CA has come...

Start with Divide et Impera mod. Great overhaul.

Removes all arcady skills and firey javelins...

I'll stick with EB, and wait for EB2. Thanks.

I like EB, actually it's one of my favorite mods ever. But after playing Rome 2, I don't think I'll go to play EB again.

Rome 2 is quite good game. Of course there are many bugs but still better than any Total War games, IMHO.

Personally I don't even refer to EB as a mod anymore... it's a gaming experience, and one of the best I've ever had. It takes such a gigantic dump on what CA could come up with that it's hard to believe.

But I digress...

Anyone got a vague idea as to when EB2 gets done?

Hum, yeah, but I figured people excited enough by it to bring it up in this unrelated thread would know off the top of their head.

But certainly, thanks for the all too obvious advice. And I already looked and only saw chatter about impending beta testing.

As of today we're finishing the 1st week of formal Beta Testing, and it's a pretty exciting time for the team. We know people are chomping at the bit for a release date but we really can't give one just yet. This team has high standards, and it's VERY important that the first release be interesting, stable, deeply historical, visually stunning....but most of all, fun to play. And we're getting closer to that goal, every day.

I can promise you this - the current level of work activity is one of the highest I've ever seen.

Right on! That's great news! Thanks for the update. You keep those high standards exactly where they are, everyone who has been waiting can wait awhile longer. I'm encouraged to hear the activity has picked up, that's all the news I needed to hear because it convinces me this thing is really on the road to completion. Fantastic news, fantastic work.

OK now wtf???
So I haven't been playing for a while but decided to pick up my Baktria campaign.
First battle & I can't get locked formations to work any more??? Try to move my locked formation & the game decides its going to reorder them in some completely random order.

It was bad enough that they decided that the game should reorder my Groups in the first place, slightly offset by the presence of the locked formation (yay for extra clicks to do the same simple thing & never using the broken old version) but now they broke the locked formations too :rtwno:

So after a bit more experimentation:
Same unit type stays in locked formation
1 of each of 3 managed to stay in locked formation
But as soon as I try to do stuff like 5 Pikes in a front line with 2 lines of 4 slingers behind, it seems to try to do something like an auto-quinqunx or something.
Maybe useful for playing Caesar in Gaul but a pita when trying to keep a pike line...
