I'd like many different things. Ancient, fantasy...lots of different ideas. Ancient battles around the Tigris-Euphrates would be good. You could make a whole game based around the Persians vs the Spartans...but the next game would have to have a wider base. So....how about Planet of the Apes: Total War. I want Dr. Zaius to lead my faction to victory http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif And once your humans learn to kind of talk again, the apes could have a negative morale bonus, from being so shocked that humans can speak, haha. theres tons of things you could do.

I voted for ancient too. Fantasy is cool, but not for Total War style. On the other hand ancient era is much more famous for its great battles, even more than Medieval era.

Ancient or Napoleonic. Engine would work very nicely for both of those eras. Cant say the same for modern combat.

My vote is for either renaissance or colonial tw. there would be some new interessting tactics to explore. It would still be possible to fight in hand to hand combat even if newer possibilities are avaliable with guns.

Also I saw a post where someone wanted in depth regional games, like a war for Britain with a very detailed map. I didn't like the idea much at first, but I have to say it's grown on me. You could progress from Roman invasion to Norman invasion, wipe out the picts, the saxons, the vikings.

Makes me drool just thinking about it.

Well, you can't go World War without the first one Where is that?

WWI is possible IMHO. You would have to build trenches in the strat map and also use artillery and air forces in the strat map as well. The battles would be more of a Trench-taking mode, with the horrible "over the top" command. I envision a period after MTW and ending with WWI. Then, chronologically IRL the technology would be avaliable to do a game starting with Versailles and ending with the Gulf War.
