my hard drive has been making the click of death for almost a year now and lately its becoming unbearable to use it :( i think i need to buy a new one. I'm just wondering, should I get exactly the same, or? How do I know which one will work on my pc etc. Do I also need to replacy my motherboard? Or just see which one works with my MB?
thanks for the help :D
I can't imagine why you would need to replace your mobo. Does it have SATA headers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA)? Please tell me you aren't running some ancient IDE drive (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=134).

no, i have no clue about all that :P its just that my HD is broken and I want some advice on what I need to take into account when replacing it.
There are three common interfaces that let your HD talk to everything else. Most common: SATA. Less common (and much older): IDE. Least common: SCSI. All are possible.
Until you know which connection you need, there's not much to say. Maybe post your mobo make and model, and we can figure it out for ya?

do i need to open up my pc to find that out? or can I find this info online or on properties somewhere?
You can go to the start menu and search for or run "msinfo32", it should list the name of your motherboard if the info is available.
Opening the system might also help as the name of the model is often printed somewhere on the motherboard.

Was this advice viable? Did you manage to resolve your problem? I'm interested as I have the same dilemma.
