With the massive influx of polls i thought i'd find out what people think of an average poll. (and i wanted to do one myself http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif (shame on me!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif)
Reply, rant or slam someone.

Found one, with an option "Don't use castles" for whether they take to long to build or not.
Obviously anyone who doesn't play expert, or who does but with troop types higher than toothless, unarmed, peasent has gotta be a GD wimp. But hey not everyone can handle that kind of challenge. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
So ultimatley I have to agree, that if it smells like cheese you'd be better off not lickin it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Always seems to happen in any forum that allows users to create polls. The good discussions get lost in a plethora of pointless "What's your favourite..." type polls. Would be better if there was a separate polls forum and have them dissabled in the discussion forums.

Yes, can we get rid of them please?
well some polls can fit in where they already are, such as proper ones that help you, other than that most are spam

Keep in mind each forum does have Moderators, and if we (in this case, me and Shiro) otice the polls getting out of hand in this one, they'll be cut. What we'll probably do is merge an informative poll with a like-minded thread, eliminating the poll but keeping the replies, that way information is available without the appearance of serving no purpose but to annoy with a question
(run-on sentence.)

I actually like the polls, and even if you disabled them people would still post "polls" and ask you to select a number for your choice.

I just merged the MP Balance poll with the MP Players Uprising thread, and the poll has been eliminated http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif, but the poll replies have been added to the thread. See? If you don't want this happening to your poll, I suggest you make them rare and worthwhile.

actually the polls are a fancy new toy, but I can tell in a few days (or a couple of weeks) peeps won't bother with them any more and we all go back to good old spamming discussion.

Never http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif IMO great leadership & enough peasants can go a long, long, way. When I say enough I mean an awful lot. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I did this poll as a test or joke (also probably should have been in the tavern) but it has brought in the, what seems standard results.
About 1 in 10 has to pick the odd-ball answer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
That seems to be the only definite in the polls but if you look to how many have viewed the polls compared to the other posts the difference is significant. And if you look at the number of views to the votes also there is a massive difference.
I think, unlike this one, that they are a valued part of an intellectual discussion, rather than a stand alone piece of information. Also it gives the opportunity to give your opinion without the need to post a reply, meaning that the more vocal posters may not have the view point majority. Eg. Multiplayers seem very vocal but are relatively small in number (or so stated in other posts(and by looking on gamespy and seeing how many players are online )).
P.S This is not a justification of my poll post because there is NO justification for that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif (except maybe castration )

I have to agree with you, they are on the whole very useful, the dig about castles & peasants, was really a way of highlihgting the oddball items, & wasn't meant as a sweeping slurr against them as a whole, (even though it came across as one).
On consideration I presume these are generally due to there being too many poll options, so that your entire poll can comprise 4 valid responses, & the rest are just filling out the poll, so as not to leave any blanks.

They are just upgraded 'what's your favourite...' posts

Yeah, the polls are getting a little out of hand,IMO. Many are OT or very close to spammy.

Give the feature a chance, its a new .org, it'll take a little while for things to settle down.
Eventually, I think the polls may become quite useful. Folks just need to take care to formulate their polls a little better, with a little less emphasis on the "entertainment" aspect. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

okay I've been closing spam polls all over, and even though this is the first and original one here in the MH, it's gotta go, too, to be fair.
