I'm busy with my visa application for my trip to the USA and I have to fill in the DS-160 form. In that form I'm asked to refer to a person (or organisation) that could vouch for my identity in case it is needed.

If there are any orgahs who would be willing to help me out with this I'd really appreciate it. I could add you on FB and we could swap contact info.

Ofcourse there is no pressure for us to meet, its already awesome if someone wants to do this for me, but if youre up for it I would buy you a beer to repay your kindness.

Thanks in advance,
TS

And if you don't turn out to be who you are, then that person gets a one-way ticket to gitmo?

Does it have to be an American? How could an American vouch for you on your first trip there?

Just don't mention anything related to the letters "A" and "Q" in this thread or The_Stranger will receive a free colonoscopy.

dunno. found that part a bit odd too tbh. what if i dont know any americans (which kinda is the case). But anyway, I think fb and our acquaintance here should be enough. afaik its just an insurance policy, they said in case my identity would need to be verified. which i dont think would be needed but ok. a form is a form XD

i guess this is somewhat of a joke. but still i find it pretty weird that i need a us contact when ive never been to the us and know very few people in the us, none of them well enough to vouch for my identity anyway.

so i cant get into your country unless i frantically befriend every american i meet outside the usa... weird.

Are you sure these people have to be Americans?

I just looked for some guides and those just say trustworthy persons or friends, no mention that they have to be American.

hmm maybe i misunderstood, but the form is mentioning us contact persons. if i dont know any persons, then an organisation/shop/hotel that i would be visiting is also fine. what you say would make more sense tho

Are they looking for hotel reservations or rental firms?

US forms can be a real pain. To renew a passport you have to list your travel plans, that is even if you happen to live outside the country and renew overseas.

I hope you don’t need to take your form to a US embassy or consulate. If so, prepare to be humiliated…even if you were a US citizen.

Heh, I remember my interview in the US embassy to get my work&travel 6 months visa. I got the lady who had the worst reputation for denying visas. Fortunately for my friends, at least, since my English is by far the best out of our bunch. I vaguely remember the conversation. When asked what else am I planning to do I think I mentioned parties and babes and how work might interfere with the latter. She pursed her lips together and answered something like "Well that is a problem if you like babes." Lol I felt like a 5 year old having his ear pulled. She did give me the visa though.

At the counter next to me, one guy from our group got his visa just by saying "Yea, yea, yea.". Literally. He didn't know a word of English, but he lucked out because the guy behind the counter was Bulgarian.

I also know that one moron, upon landing in the USA, filled in that he has knowledge of how to assemble Nuclear weapons in that little card thing they give you. Boy did they remove his constipation afterwards... I'm not sure why there even is such a questionnaire in the first place. Unless it's to weed out the mentally challenged people who are also a threat to US national security :laugh4:

i went to get my visa today

the conversation with the people from the embassy was actually the best part of the entire trip. all the people who worked there were very nice, even though they had to follow protocol etc, a big difference with the phonecall.

getting into the embassy was a big hassle tho XD i had an appointment at 9.30, it was 13:30 by the time i left the embassy as one of the last people to get a visa haha. part of it was me being unprepared though, but apparantly it was also freakishly busy
