Wargamer is hosting this scenario and a good description and some battle help.

Is the Berserk Viking holding the bridge on his own in the..........Oh yes he is...sorry.
Ok then do we get the chance to paddle beneath and spear him like Harold's men did?

I cant get this to work. The picture of the battle doesnt work and there is no options to press fight battle. Also I think that you should include a readme that says where you should put all the files so people knows.

there is one. you've gotta check the second page in the description. unzip the folder to the medieval\battle\batint\historical battles folder. Then take the .jjm and .inf files and put them in medieval\battle\maps folder.
I do like this battle. The only thing that varied the time I played it....the lone Viking left the bridge, and joined a large force of other soldiers for some reason. I only tried it once though, when i have more time I'll play it again and see what he does.

It's not too bad I reckon, but it shows a number of the shortcomings of the system.
In the actual battle the English WERE able to cross the stream at a Ford the Vikings hadn't noticed, although it took them some time to do so.
Also there were apparently some Vikings scattered on the wrong side of hte river - they were quickly destroyed and the lone Viking was apparently a survivor of them.
The Vikings used this delay to withdraw to a small hill and form a shieldwall from which they resisted the English in a bloody battle.
We certainly get the bloody battle (I lost more than I killed & captured ), and the bridge is good (even if the lone viking doesn't last long vs the peasants He should have pretty huge valour if he hasn't already lol)
The Viking reinforcements seem to break as easily as they should - they were exhausted having run 7 miles (or was it 9??) something like that to get to the battle, in armour, and some of them dying of exhaustion on the way.
Also it's a bit of a shame that knights and men at arms are used - this battle only needs Vikings, Spearmen, peasants and archers.
English Huscarls can be heavily armoured and high valour Vikings, most of the Vikings in HH's army as unarmoured vikings, the English as mainly moderately armoured and valoured spears.
Tostigs troops should just be a few Huscarles (Vikings) for his bodyguard, a couple of spears and a peasant.
It's kind of hard to know how much of this is already there without a battle editor (subtle hint http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif).
But overall a better effort than any of the other "historical" battles that came with the game
I actually liked it... and lost the first time.
I guess I was impetuous, sending in the surviving 16 Peasants from the fight with the lone Viking (he also killed 2 MAA).
But I wonder why a few units are Fresh when the others are Exhausted, shouldn't they all be Exhausted?

The English Huscarls (the 2 fresh units) were monuted infantry, so I guess the difference represents them beign able to dismount having ridden their horses rather han having to have walked all the ay themselves.
IMO it's a reasonable mechanism to use, although I doubt the extreme levels of exhaustion for hte English are really justified - Forced marching over several days doesn't neccessarily exhaust troops, and I've never seen any refernce to the English being tired at teh battle..
