Archers: Who is the best?

I don't have any exp with Nizaris but I used all the others.
IMO Jannisary Archers deserve the word "best" (because they are not just "shot all you got and get the hell out of the battle-field" type archers).

I like lots of the Turkish archers. The Janissary Archers...I like their hats http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif . Janissary Infantry are the best all-around, in my opinion. Futuwwas are worth the money, and good all around. hmm...choices....

oh yeah, and Nizaris are too expensive I think. One or two valour upgrades, and you're pushing 1000 florins per unit...at least in MP. Not worth it to me.

One thing i really don't understand is, why use Janissary Archer when you can use Janissary Infantry, does archer actually shoot better?

Nizari's are quite useful. One time I used them and forgot about them only to find they had not only repelled their attackers but destroyed them. Sorry I left you in a tight spot without orders guys but thanks for your efforts

Well, not according to the projectile file... But my tests with them have shown quite large differences between JA and JI. So I don't know.

By the way, before the patch the Longbows fired faster than normal archers, but now they have the same number of animations to go through before firing. So I set that back from 4 to 3 and saw the Longbow Uzi return, they felt right again.

Also another weird thing is when using archers like desert archer/Turocoman Archers, put them on tight formation, 3 lines, their formation seems pretty loose. Now try use Ottoman infantry, tight formation, 3 lines, and their formation is EXTREME tight. The 3 lines tight formation space of desert archer is so big that you can fit two groups of Ottoman infantry there. Is there any reason for this?

The Ottomans are really infantry with bows the others are archers with melee weapons. Infantry is much better organized.

Btw Turcomans are the ultimate archers in the game, they scored quite well in my tests, among the best. But they are fast, have good defense, good armour, shields and a loose formation. Jannisary Archers simply raked up the best kills of all the archers I tested, and Jannisary Infantry got the worst. So that would indicate some ranged units are different, despite the file. I don't know why, or even if this is true.

The problem with ottoman infantry is their stats is crap for melee(worse than Janissary Archer on melee, AP is the only good melee stats they got) They also cost about the same as JA and can only be build in late period(which is really pathetic)

Nizari may be expensive in MP, in SP they rock They are stronger (in melee) than any other archer unit and fast (oh, I forgot janissary inf, are they the strongest? Never seen them on field yet). I guess longbows kill more, but empty they are weaker. I use nizari not just as archers but also as fast, light infantry.
