View Full Version : The Agincourt Battle
There doesn't seem to be any real terrain that could cause the French difficulties- mud/hills/sharp pointy stakes like in the real battle.
The English just seem horribly outnumbered without any advantage that could even the odds.

Hm, I beat this battle on my first try on medium. I simply lined up my longbows between the two clumps of trees, with my spears in front, and engaged whatever cavalry got close enough. Had a little trouble with a flanking unit of cav, but no biggy. The rear infantry units got jammed up a bit behind their repulsed horses and got murdered by my arrows.
I do agree though, there really isnt any terrain feature that helps the english (originally, wasnt their supposed to be mud in the ground which caused the horses to founder?)
I remember in ME there were stakes in the ground on one of Nubunaga's historical missions which may also have worked here.

Won this one. Not one the first try though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
A tactic that worked for me was to throw all my cav, one archer and a foot one the left flank; right flank just hold them with spears and concentrate your archers. The enemy gets cut down pretty quick-love those longbows

If you deploy as in the real battle ( your spears are the stakes ) there really isn't any difficulty in defeating the French

I'll try again but this doesn't seem a particulary suitable battle to recreate if the game doesn't include the terrain conditions which helped make it so famous a victory

yeah ,it seems the conditions r all wrong. im sure the french were funneled towrds the english with trees on both sides and alot of mud on the way, and another thing is that in this game the longbows have no real range to cut the attckers down before they get to u http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

beat it on my first try on expert by just putting the longbowmen up front and spearmen right in back of em and then fuedal men at arms to flank the horse units

Most of the "historical" battles bear only a passing resemblance to their prototypes, and all yuor points are valid - except that the Franch mainly attacked on foot http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
IMO the game would benefit immensly from a good battle creator/editor allowing players to build their own.
Yeah its too bad "Mud" was not implemented as a weather-based terrain condition in the game. In the strat game, for example, if the battle occurs during or even a day or two after Rain, you would have a Mud battlefield...slower movement rates all around, and more fatigue loss on armored troops as per Sand battles. Woulda been a neat feature
