View Full Version : Septagenarian Daddy
I thought I'd set a new and never-to-be-broken MTW record when the German Emperor Conrad II in my current Early campaign game fathered a daughter, Princess Jutta, in AD 1109. Conrad II was 74 at the time
But I was wrong. Three years later, he sired Prince Rudolf. Conrad II died the following year at age 78 (in a fair state of contentment, no doubt).
Make no mistake, these were a daughter and a son, at ages 74 and 77. I've been carefully plotting my family tree as I've been playing along (a fun little side hobby I've gotten into the habit of doing) and sure enough, when the new Emperor's (Conrad III) son (Hermann) finally came of age at 16, the royal brothers were all demoted below him in the line of succession on the Heir Status parchment (a nice fix by the patch here by the way, this demotion used to not happen). Included in this demotion was Rudolf (now 22), showing that he was indeed Conrad II's son (hence Conrad III's brother, thus Hermann's uncle).
Can anyone come close to this record (77)?
Well, a man can "breed" as long as he lives. If Conrad the Second could actively participate in a battle, and take some Rebel heads, then he surely can ... well you know what I mean. Hehe..
Ah well thats true. But its a bit unusual in this context, especially when you consider there obviously has to be an Empress involved in all this childrearing as well.
Now I don't know who Conrad II's wife is; he is the starting monarch you get with Germany in the Early campaign. I only know she exists because Conrad II starts the game with this little ring thingy on the left of his portrait.
What I do know is this: Conrad III was born AD 1074. Rudolf, as stated earlier, was born in 1112. Thats an age gap of 38 years. So, while I suppose Conrad II might have been able to pull this one off, I'm not so sure of Mrs. Conrad...
Unless of course he traded her in a for a newer model, and the game just not telling us this little detail http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Hmm...have you ever concider that they could have adopt the childs born during the queens vererable age? And if the message writes that she got birth then the heck with it
What is unrealistic imho is the fact that every queen gives birth to 6-8 childs during her reign.

My great Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire Alexious died in the age of 88, and he kept on with the wild thing until he dropped dead: His last heir came up at the age of 87 He left behind 7 sons and two daughters altogether.

I have seen one time 2 HRE princesses in my province spying. The first was called Katharina, and the second`s name was... also Katharina Guess their father hadn`t much fantasy with names.
I think the many heirs monarchs get are from different wifes. Even catholics can marry again when the old one`s sleeping with the daisies.
I sure wish my Spanish king had been like that. By the time he died at 70 he hadn't had a child in 36 years and I had only one heir left. Fortunately, my new king is an 8 star wonder and had 3 sons in 6 years. I hope he keeps breeding for a long time because I felt very vulnerable with no heirs when he first became king.

A strange thing happened to me lately:
My Sultan died of illness (don`t know how old he was), the heir was 70 as he became ruler. He died 2 years later and the new ruler was 71. He died also two years later and some 16 year old boy became ruler. It was prepatch, so I don`t knew you was eldest son, but this chain of succession was quiet strange.

Most heirs I've had at a single time was 6, with about 4 daughters as well. Not bad seeing as I was comitting my King in battle since the second heir. His wife must have traveled to the battlefield with him http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Worst King/Sultan I ever had lived till about 84. Why do the good die young, and the really terrible die so old? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

My King's oldest fathering was at 76 and he died two years later after 7 sons and too many princesses to count.
Another nice "feature" I have noticed is that the birth messages come up before the marriage messages so it looks like the king "knocks up" some bird and then he is forced to marry her to avoid excommuinication and massive scandal/rebellion.
