Does AI assault castles???

Does AI assault castles???. This is my question. In my campaigns i have never seen the AI assaulting one of my castles. Have you seen the AI assaulting your castles????

In brief, yes. Not that often but several times in ,ay last campaign.

from what i've seen is they only will if they are assured of victory.

Hmm...I've never had the AI assault any of my castles. It could be because I never give them enough consecutive years in my provinces to do so...but they had their chance, shoulda taken it.

I've seen them try when they have huge odds.

Usually it's an easy victory for you (pre patch) - they'd knock one hole in the wall hten send their entier army at it - you could line the hole with a reversed "U" of troops, hit the enemy from 3 sides and pour arrows into them all at once.

Does the AI handle the assault OK? I remember there being some issue as to how it implemented the attack pre-patch. Something about it would knock a hole in the wall then simply dither about just outside the breach getting shot to death.

Ive had it once. I bribed the tiny Turkish Garrison inside a citidel. The Turks with thier 3000 man army in the provice wernt ammused and assulted. Timer ran out as thier men where just feet from my last defenders. Next turn my army arrived. THey lost 1500 in that assault. Finaly they moved thier army out of range of my Catipult towers but still they took heavy losses. After thier big arrow shooty thingy was gone they had to charge both gates. It was a terrible slaughter. Helped me though, my army couldnt take on 3000 but took out 1500 easily.

Yes, what Don Megel said is a good tactic to get yourself in a defending role in assaults, if you can afford it. Bribe enemy garrisons that are inside the castle, while there is a second army outside in the province, and the ai will usually assault. It's a bit expensive, and you can't choose which troops you'll field, but it's fun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
