View Full Version : Rebel lands join your Empire willingly

I've had the experience of rebel territories bordering my own suddenly joining up and becoming part of my Empire You'll know when this happens when you get a "Prisoners have been ransomed," etc. page pop up for a province you didn't invade or defend, or been iven the chance to command personally. This occurs in lands I've never held, so it isn't a loyalist rebellion, and I'm not aware that it's happened until after the battle is over.
If you check the strat map, there will be an added province with your colored borders and a loyalist army in it. The new loyalist army will usually be pretty depleted, so it's a good idea to reinforce with neighboring troops if you can.
Anyone else notice this? Also, does anyone have any reasons for why this might happen? I think if you have the Happiest People there might be a better chance than norma, but that's just speculation.

Not sure as to the why, but yes, I've had it happen. In fact, had 55 Italian infantry join my cause...only strange part to that was I was Danish

It used to happen a fair bit but seems rarer nowadays.

Originally there was a % chance that a succesfully rebelled province would join a "random" faction out of any that had previously held that province.

It now seems that they (may) have simply made this into a "random" faction - forgoing the "previously held by".

I've only witnessed personally the "previously held by" element of this.

IT can actually be a bit of a pain.

You know, I wonder if this is actually an example of a dynastic claim...by chance, were these rebels actually part of a Baronial Revolt against another faction? And did you marry a princess of that faction before it had its civil war? Then maybe, just maybe, this could be an actual example of the much ballyhooed but rarely seen feature of dynastic claims thru marriage (see Rulebook, pg. 18, para 5; also see pg. 38, last para).

If this is so, then I'm VERY impressed; despite numerous attempts at what I thought were strategic marriages, I've NEVER had anything close to this happen in any of my games I've just about given up hope on this so-called feature... until now

That's a weird one.

I've only had Loyalist revolts in areas that were previously mine. Never in an unclaimed province.

As the English I've had the Scots love me so much they revolted against an Alhomad sea invasion, and when I lost Aquitaine to the Alhomads, very handily a goup of about a thousand rebels popped up.

Including Billmen, which was both nice and strange.

Nice because they're good troops.

Strange because I didn't have any facility to build them.

I have already experience the same thing.
I was at war against HRE, after a few year of conquest I started to stabilize my borders. The HRE had only a few army remaining and some of his provinces near nmy border started to revolt, he couldn't handle it and a few year after, maybe 5 or 7, one of the rebel territory became one of my territory. Maybe it's related to the power/influence of the nation, at this time I had a very powerfull king (max influence, 6 stars general...).

Also there is a chance that if the rebels were a result of a christian/catholic revolt and your emperor/king had high pious, that they joined you for that reason.

I wondered at that myself - problem is that's there's no way to keep track of dynastic claims so i've absolutely no idea at all. And when the rebellion occurs its "without warning" as its not in your own provincial areas you watch - generally the first warning you have of it is when its all over - thus no way to see what kicked it off.

Its definitely a possibility though.
