is there anyway to view ai vs ai battles in sp campaign.

in my sp campagin there are there is a long and bloody war raging between the turks and the byzantines for control of the western mediterrainian. Not being able to view their massive clashes I feel kind of left out. Most people probably think this sounds boring but ....

i like to watch http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yes. When you move a banner to relieve a besieged ally. The enemy sets up, your army sets up, and your ally's army sets up (usually not a very large army, so be warned.) Anyway, you can just sit back and watch the AI armies go at it, and intervene if you need to (to win) or just retreat. Consider doing this with a small, mobile army (a unit of cav) so you can move around behind your allies' lines.

I believe auto-resolved battles (such as between 2 AI factions) are not resolved using teh battle mechanism - instead they are simple numerical comparisons of the troops on each side, terrain, etc.

That's why they only take a second whereas loading and unloading a "real" battle takes up to a few minutes regardless of het number of troops involved

So you can't see them becaue they don't happen

Unless you put a unit in them as Soly sugested.

Of course and they happen. We only need some imagination.

It should be possible to watch them when you have a spy in that province. Would be fun to watch and it actually could alter the result.

It maybe possible, I am not sure exactly but you know the "-ian" debug cheat? That turns on some parts of the code that we used during development to help test the game, I am not sure if the view AI vs AI battle part is inluded in the cheat, but if it is you can turn it on with shift + # (or shift + @ or " depending on what window keyboard settings you have.) Turn on debug mode by changing your shortcut to include -ian in its command line.

I'll fill in here, as ECS is now on holiday for an unbelievable six weeks. (He hadn't taken any time off for the last eighteen months. That's dedication...)

There is an undocumented cheat mode in Medieval which requires you to change the shortcut target so it has -ian on the end. Find the entry for Medieval on your start menu or desktop, rightclick and select Properties, and find the Target box, which should have something like "C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe" in it. Add -ian to the end of this so it looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval - Total War\Medieval_TW.exe" -ian

(your exact path may vary)

And that's the "PR" mode enabled. Now in this mode there may (ECS was unsure and so am I) be further cheats enabled on the campaign map. If they are enabled you'll be able to find out quickly enough. Press # during a campaign and your faction will be controlled by the AI. Press A and the game will start to autorun. Press Shift-# and you will be taken to the battlemap to witness all battles, not just your own. In all cases you should see a small message in red in the middle of the screen to tell you what you've just done.

To take control of a faction after you pressed #, press one of the keys 0-9 to take over control of one of the first ten factions, or hold down Shift and press 0-9 to take over one of the second ten.

If you press Shift-# you'll see something like "View AI battles ON"; press it again and you'll see an equivalent OFF message. You can do all these commands at any time during your turn, but if you start autorunning the keys will only be scanned every so often, and getting out of autorun can sometimes be tricky. Pressing A three times usually works :)

So let me see if I understand this ... press "#" to enable ai control of your faction, and shift "#" to get AI battles on. Also, 0-9 and shift 0-9 select factions. Now, if I understand my keyboard right, the # is the shift "3" key. So does this mean that the 3 button does double duty? I ask, because I cannot get the ai battles to work. shift-3 does not work. In fact, I tried every button in the shift combo and did not see ai battles at all. Also shift "'" causes the game to say "Your faction is now controlled by AI", what did I just do?

Thanks for this PR mode. It's really cool (even though I haven't seen the AI battle part yet). I'm really eager to see the AI fight itself.

is that holding shift down while u press the - and # keys or do u do them one a at a time.

i held down shift while i typed the keys and kept getting a message that the ai was controlloing mu faction (but then I had already given control to the ai and was as yet unaware of the number command to regain control)

PS is the 0-9 on the number pad or the keyboard or doesnt it matter.

The staff at CA are no doubt using the UK keyboard layout which is somewhat different to the US and Aus (maybe everywhere else too) so when you pressed shift ' it worked because that is where the # symbol is on UK keyboards.

It took me a long time to get used to when I came to the UK from Australia http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

So what exactly is the key combination for American keyboards to allow for viewing the AI battles?

I've tried ', but that only turns control of my faction over to the computer.

I don't think it's enabled. I tried shift-button for every button on the keyboard and did not get it. I tried switching my keyboard to UK format in Windows, while it let me write the English Pound symbol, it didn't help me turn on the view AI option. Interestingly, the "#" moved to the slash key which is above the "enter" and below the "backspace" on my keyboard.

Anyone succeed in enabling "View AI Battles"?
