Well here you have it. We've had a few weeks to mess around with the patch...our initial impressions have had a chance to wear off and its time to make our opinions known.

A small improvement in stability... it loads faster, private chat is fixed, and crashes hangs ect are fewer(but i still get them) Unit balance...is different but not fixed..cost per value is the key.... most units do not render a value relitive to their cost, when compaired to other simular units... thus while we have many unit types to choose from, we really have only a few to choose from (if we want to win the game)

i voted improvment. although i wish they could have

changed the way seige time is calculated differently.

IMHO the number of troops u u have in fortification should not effect the seige time as drasticly as is does currently.

right now u can put 50 person in a fortress and get the never fall to seige message. but if i have a full army in the fortress it only lasts for 2 years. in my current campaign i am sorely tempted to withdraw all my armies from my border provences and put 50 men in the citadel.

the ai will likly never be able to take the fortification via assault and it will never fall to seige so you have a unbreachable wall around your kingdom.

this needs changing. u should be rewarded for stationing a garrison in your provences not penalised to this extent. a citadel type or fortress type structure should always last for 10 years or more. otherwise whats the point of building them. (just for upgrades ?? that is not good)

The more people under seige in a castle the more food they need to eat to stay alive

Well I am suprised, the patch seems to have overwhelming support, now that the initial "uproar" has died down.

I guess congratulations to CA are in order

Definitely, congratulations all the way. The game plays so much better now... I just finished my first post-patch campaign (severely limited time the past two weeks... bloody work) and its a charm, definitely

OK, now we opt for the add-on. CA folks, are you listening? Add-on? Where is it? What shall it be? When does it comes out?

I think the issue here is a little 'conceptual'...

Each castle type has an invisible garrison, and you troops count as extra. This invisible garrison are the blokes in the towers and keep shooting arrows and stuff... Thus your 50 blokes in a citadel is 50 extra blokes plus the Citadel invisible garrison...

Now this falls over a little when you have no troops in a province with a castle, the enemy automatically take the castle... so... bugger... how to justify that???

I guess it could use a little work...

I would suggest that it is clearly an improvement over the released version. Aspects concerning the relative availability of units and/or frequency and strength of rebellions are quite secondary to whether the game will run reliably on the average consumer's machine. Since fewer supporters, including myself (anything that allows for and even extends my marathon sessions of mtw is brilliant&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, are experiencing program oddities in terms of performance, the patch is welcome and obviously an improvement. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

i think the solution is to make it compulsary to have a garrison in the castle at all times. this compulsary garrison could be 100 urban miltia . u have to pay upkeep for this garrison.

u can not move this 100 man unit out of the provence.
and u can not use it in field battles nor see it in castle battles. it consitutes the invisible garrison that is manning the walls and firing arrows at the castle attackers.

u can leave the castle just defended by the invisible garrison if you want. the attacker has to breach all the walls and knock down the keep door (keep needs a door first) in order to win the castle battle.(and place troops at the keep door. i e u cant just knock down the keep door with long range arty)

I think it is ridiculous how u can win a castle battle with out breaching all the walls and getting troops into the keep. u cant tell me that in history the attacker killed all troops inside the first wall grounds and then despite the fact there were arrows being fired at it from the 2nd wall decided that it had won the battle and went home.

I still think that beacuse we have year long turns the seige time for having extra troops in your big fortress or citadel should be greater. 1 - 2 years is too short in IMHO for 1000 troops.

should be 4-5 years this gives you time to bring a large army in from another provence to raise the seige.
