View Full Version : What year do you finish taking the world over?
Do you guys conquer the world before the Late Period in 1320? Has anyone won sooner than that?
I am playing my best game to date. I am Spanish and it is 1222 and I think I may own the world in 50 years or so (if I can continue to handle the horde).

Just finished my frist campaign (English Early Normal) in 1260, just as gunpowder was invented. I played from 1249-1260 with the patch applied; previously I'd abandoned the campaign as it crashed in 1249. I was going to wait for gunpowder (mostly for the ships I'd be able to build) but it turns out I didn't need to-- just bum rushed the Byz right outta Constantinople. Probably coulda done it 20 years earlier but I was being careful.
I'm sure on Hard or Expert it's much more difficult Looking forward to my next one.
From 1087 to 1260, I usually own between 10 to 15 provinces.
From 1261 to 1350, I do nothing except building up and saving money. Occasionally, I take the nearby rebel province if any become available due to elimination of other faction or civil war.
From 1351, I start conquering. The goal is to conquer the world in the least amount of time.
So far, I've finished 5 campaigns. 4 pre-patch campaigns: 3 lesser victory in TD mode (end in late 1300 or early 1400) and 1 GA victory when time ran out. 1 campaign half pre-patch, half post-patch: take all province but Switzerland in 1423.
Just begin the sixth campaign in TD mode. However, I have to change a little this time because AI is tougher now so I'll need more than 100 years to conquer the world. I plan to start conquering around 1300 or 1260.

Mary, Queen of Scots and pdoan8 which difficulty settings were your victories obtained on? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
Hyppolye, I play early, hard. I always start warring at the beginning of the game. 'IF' my provinces weren't always revolting for no reason at all, then I would be finished with my current campaign by about 1300. I thought I would win earlier, but I had to deal with the Mongol Horde and that took about 15 years to finish them off, then I had to rebuild my forces some before continuing with my conquests.

It helps viewers to better understand the games described if they also know the difficulty setting. This is not to say that more difficult settings are preferred, only that the descriptions are not placed within a vacuum. I think most would agree that strategies and expansion projections are proportional to difficulty (meaning that what might take 15 years to achieve on hard will take much longer on expert difficulty).
I always play in early period.
1. Danish, easy, TD, lesser victory because I would not have enought time to take the rest of the world.
2. English, normal, TD, also lesser victory.
3. Spanish, hard, TD, lesser victory again.
4. Spanish, hard, GA, have the most points when time ran out.
5. Almohad, hard, TD, take all but Switzerland in 1423.
I like long game with a lot of high tech units.

I don't want to take over the world really, playing as the English I'm trying to consolidate France, Portugal, Sweden-Norway-Denmark, almost all the Mediterranean islands, and a crusader-state from Edessa to Egypt, plus constantinople. Of course, the STUPID DIPLOMACY means I have no allies (not even the Russians of Polish, who I have no borders with http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif) and am at war with almost everyone. I can win a four front war, but I'm fighting a six front war http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

I'm on my second campaign now. First one was Early Expert Pre-patch HRE.
The last province was taken in 1232. The Mongols arrived in 1230, but unfortunately they decided to land in Khazar, which was full of troops who had just wiped out the Turks and were about to obliterate the eastern half of Novgorod. The Golden Horde evaporated very quickly :-)
Whole game post-patch. Spanish, Early, Hard. Just won complete victory. It is 1281AD. I won 60% in 1259AD; kept playing. The key for me was halbreders and peasants. Whole world is revolt-light-green even at the end; every province has at least 500 troops; never built a single spy, never built a single assassin.
Might mention: I never got a "caught enemy spy/assassin" message although have all messages "on". Is it safe to assume that b/c I never used a spy or assassin that the computer never really tried to use them on me? I did have watch towers in every province.
