Danes don't dig horses???

What's the story with Danes and cavalry - ok, they don't get Hobilars, I can live with that, but I've conquered most of "Russia" & have all hte pre-requisites and can't get Lithuanian or Steppe cavalry.

But I can get Jinetes in Spain

It all seems very odd.....

well hobliers can be built by certain factions, jinnetees can be built in certain provinces. No real mystery to it just have to play with yout crusader_unit_prod11.txt.

What I don't understand is why every faction doesn't have at least a normal Horse Archer. Doesn't have to be real specialized, just a regular horse archer.

It wouldn't be historically accurate. Few of the western peoples used horse archery. Although I understand that some did employ crossbows from horseback.

lithuanian cav can't be had till the high period, except by the rebels that start with them. but move over a few provinces and get you some steppe cav with only a horse farmer. really fast, though it has poor morale.

Trouble is I'm not getting teh Steppe Cavalry - as I said - I have Muscovy & a couple of the other provinces, I have the horse farmers in them, and no Steppe cav.

Bif - thanks for the tip about Lithuanians being late - is there a list somewhere of what units are available in teh 3 periods??

And Nobu - Like Nonkey says - it's not historical - it's not even vaguely historical.

Horse archery was a feature of eastern warfare, as knights were of western. You might's well ask why the Muscovites don't get longbows, or the Ottomans don't get knights - it didn't happen, and was never going to happen aside from mercenaries, conquest and bribery - all of which ARE in het game http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You can only get steppe cav in volga-bulgaria, khazan, kiev & some other province, the tech tree that came with teh game is wrong. So you don't have the appropriate provinces. Btw danes get mounted crossbow not hobilars. Lithuanian cav aren't worth the tech needed for them & they are ridiculous when dismounted(who needs a 40 man archer when you can have xbows/arbalests & as cav mounted sergeants out perform them & are cheaper & require an awful lot less tech). Steppe cav are great only jinetes & alanmercs beat them, build churchs & monasteries to improve their morale

Sorry to go off topic a bit but how can we get jinettes in spanish provences??? I (english) had aragon with a horse breeder and could train jinettes.

you can get steppe cav in khazar, and every province that touches it except georgia.

there is a list of all troop types at total war assembly, as well as stats, and a way to compare the units to other units. very useful.

As for Lithuanian Cav being not worth it - have you ever tried playign het Danes were all the light & Med Cav you get is mtd X-bows & Sgts?

Any HRE player will be boggled at the title of this thread. Seems when I fight the Danes they've got nothing BUT horses. Hordes of Royal Knights are kinda hard to deal with when most of your army is made up of urban militia.

They also have a lot of hidden weapon and armor caches. I had destroyed the country completely, there wasn`t a single building left. Yet the respawning Danes appeared with something like 5*2 Royal Knights, 2*40 Feudal Knights, 5*40 Feudal Foot Knights and hordes of spearmen and archers.
