Greenland might turn out to be Denmark's most valuable possession.
The high Arctic has become disputed territory; ice melt and increasing accessibility have made the possible mineral wealth of the Polar regions a real issue...so who owns it?
Canada, USA, Norway, Russia and Denmark are all seen as possible claimants; the UN has taken a: "sort it out amongst yourselves then get back to us"; approach.

It used to be Norway's possession. Time for some soldiers without insignia to appear in Nuuk.

At first I was surprised that the UN punted it back to the parties involved.
I guess with the US and Russia squaring off all resolutions will be "transformed" into security resolutions; each will veto the other until they get what they want anyhow...might as well leave it as "lets you and him fight about it"
I wonder what sort of accommodation the smaller parties might be able to negotiate.
I hope they fight over it for years and invest a whole lot of resources into that fight only to find that absolutely nothing of value can be found there... ~;)

I hope any assets found will be used for the betterment of mankind, instead of individual states...
No one owns it, let's do something good with it.
Sidemark: If something valuable is found... Wouldn't that trigger the larger nations making claims to actually SPEED UP the environmental problems... :sweatdrop:
From whatever angle I look at it, it seems like we, as humanity, have nothing to gain from national claims.
The UN dropped the ball. Pathetic but characteristic.

They will just end up on the US East Coast and be very popular with the local lasses.
Their excuse will be "I though you sent us west for a little Nuuk Nuuk."
