It's been awhile since I gamed as the Romans. What's the latest on pilum mechanics?

Same mechanics as all other melee units that lead with a quick toss.

Um btw they did enable Fire at will/not fire button in patch 15 for Emperor edition if that was the question.

OK TY. Thought there was something more to it.

Like what?
I really don't understand the damage mechanics much but I think they did do some rework of the interaction between missiles & shields as well.

By animation everything is the same, by mechanics I think the pilum does a little more damage than a normal spear toss. It's a weak compromise considering the pilum was a pretty ingenious weapon design with a focus on armor penetration. The game could have done a much better job of representing them.

Like what? Like Rome I. You could do major damage w/ a well timed Pilum volley - two in fact - and then charge home. The player had more control and now they have none.

Well they always did an excessively long pause before throwing in Rome1.
Rome2 precursor throw is smoother than the Rome1 ever was.

As I said before there is now a 'Fire at will' button so they can fire on the defense.
