Janisarry Heavy Infantry Valour 2, W0 A0, (60 men)
vs
Gothic Foot knights V2, W0, A0. (40 men)
JHI costs : 2096 Fl.
GFK costs: 1372 Fl. (724 Fl. Cheaper)
Results (both walked halfway) :
JHI won, killing 76 out of an 80 but losing 111 of 120 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
It was Very close (note the capital V), so either the JHI are way overpriced, understatted or the GFK just rule http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif.
I'd like your opinion on the Turkish Unit...
ps: forgive me if this has been mentioned before...
Ok, the JHI has both fast speed and halbard capabilities as well as shield, while the Gothic Foot Knights are slow and a smaller unit. So in reality the JHI is 'Jack of all trades' while the Gothics are more anti-infantry.

Always gothic foot for me. I suppose you have to assume that Janissaries are more of a polearm/spear type unit while Gothics are sword armed and slow. I do agree that i think janissaries are overpriced just slightly even though you get more in a unit.
Anyway i'll always use gothic foot because they fight the way i would if i was a 15th century knight. Huge suit of solid armour, one massive two handed sword and in a seriously bad mood. You don't want to piss me off http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif
BTW what happens against mounted gothics?
I suppose the cost difference also reflects Impetuous for the GFKs, which can be darned inconvenient at times, vs. Disciplined for the Janissaries, always useful with units routing nearby, or when the leader unit gets into trouble. Impetuous and Diciplined qualities don't really shine forth in this sort limited 2 on 2 experiment you set up. In big battles with other units types in the mix, however, its a different story.
Coucy is right.
If we add all the JHI abilities together it is pretty certain that they are a much more professional Elite corps than the Gothic Foot Knights, they are more a rowdy group of very tough soldiers that are very slow.

i say the best foot is GFK but the best anti-cavalry should be those janissaries(aside from swiss pikemen)

You forgotthe other option - your test is not relevant http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Seriously - comparing 2 units to each other is NOT a great way to decide if prices are fair.
For example take say a unit of Steppe Cavalry and one of Kerns and fight the battle in hte open 1000 times.
I'd wager that the cavalry will win 999 times...or more
Does that mean the cavalry shuold cost 1000 times the cost of the Kerns??
Of course not - the Kerns have strengths that were completely ignored in this limited comparison.
For a decent comparison try both units against representative troops of vrious types - eg against a heavy cavalry charge, against a unit of spearmen, a typical unit of swrodsmen, test how many casualties they take from archery of various types, etc.
Testing them against each other is just about the least important test to do
