My passion since I remember was ancient history. M:TW made medieval history a passion for me too. Anyways, by the time TW:3 is going to be developed, medieval players would like something new, refreshing. Ancient times are far more famous for great ground melee battles than any other era. When I return to the forum tommorow I hope to see more positive replies for ancient. I am sure I will...hehe

I can see my legions crushing the barbarians of the north.... or Hannibal's elephants charging my position. (did the elephants charge? i'm not up to speed on my roman history)

On a side note, when my dad first saw me playing shogun, he thought it was a civil war battle- I was playing as Hojo and fighting Usuegi, so there were a lot of blueish guys running around. But one question is, could you find enough different unit types for roughly the same time period? i.e., the ancints could include, say, the persian(it was persia, was'nt it?) invasion of Greece, but if you wanted the Roman Empire, you'd have to wait a few hundred years. It might take some thought to make it work.

An interesting sidenote- The word "decimate" comes from an ancient roman punishment for cowardice. The men being punished were lined up, and every tenth man was beaten to death by his comrades. Inspiring, eh?

first off, you need to define what you mean by 'Medieval: Total War2'. if you just mean the current time period only with more features and upgrades, then no, it wont be any of the above.

here's my guess:

"the year is circa 1492. a grand discovery has been made while searching for a western route to the indies. there is land to the west and it is full of gold and silver and other riches

word of this discovery has lit the fire of greed and power in the great empires of europe and the race is on france, england, holland, spain and others wish to be the first to reach these vast lands and procure for themselves these vast riches. some nations are in debt and an influx of gold and silver from a new world will release them from this burden and allow their empires to expand. others see the power that old enemies will gain if they were to reach them first. thus, the nation to reach and tap into this new world and gain a foothold will surely dominate the european theatre.

thus, Colonial: Total War is born

hehe, just some speculation and dreaming on my part. but it seems like a fairly natural successor to mtw. mtw leaves off just before columbus's discovery of the new world, so colonial total war seems a natural next gambit. imagine being a european king and hearing of all the riches of a new world. you build your fleets and head west only to find jungles and hostile natives and other powers already there. you bring all your might and subterfuge and diplomatic power to bear to claim a portion of this new world. the race is truly on.

imagine pirates on the high seas, raiding the rich, gold laden vessels heading back to europe, or raiding the 'gold trains' of south and central america do you wish to establish colonies in the north and trap and trade furs, trade with other natives or fight them off and take what you want? will your colony(s) last over the harsh winter? do you wish to pillage the grand banks fishing grounds or raid the gold laden 'pagans' in the south? does the '7 cities of gold' really exist? is there a fountain of youth hidden in the florida regions? what riches lie inland? do you invest in the rich, fertile, productive land of this new world, so simply rob the natives and haul it all back to europe? do you raid other faction's colonies or start your own?

the possibilities here have never truly been tapped by other companies, and certainly never by anyone that had the total war series tactical capabilities. even sid meiers (bows down to the west) never tapped the full potential in a colonial game of the new world. i think it's a ripe field waiting to be plucked by the right developer.

If they did that, they would be required by me to include real-time naval battles. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Just imagine Piracy on the high seas hmm.... WWII? watching my landing craft come ashore on the beaches of Normandy and Guadalcanal?

This subject is OT. However, as there are about ten threads in The Tavern on this speculation of the next Total War, this will be closed rather than moved. Please carry the discussion to the Off-Topic forum.
