Somehow I picked up the impression that the Roman emperor Claudius was an arrogant fool, and that any good accomplished during his reign was done by able subordinates.
Now I'm hearing that he was a capable administrator who was maligned by ancient historians with an ax to grind .
Anyone actually know anything about it?
