View Full Version : missing Battlefield Ninja?
Maybe old news to you, but news to me:
Just discovered you could have equivalent of battlefield ninja: they are called hashashins. I believe they are exclusively egyptians or muslims.
Found out about when I chosed 3 of them and they are only 12 per unit. And they hide in plain sight.

the dope heads cannot compare to the honorable battlefeild ninja. they are just too weak. but you can still run out a timer with them http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

they can be usefull. As the AI uses a lot of peasants, you can get a lot of kills with them.
In a battle against Byz, I attacked 90 peasants with 11 v5 Hashishin. I should have seen body parts flying around. The Hashishin slaughtered about 30 in 5 seconds untill the peasants ran away. Later I ambushed Ghulam cav with them. They killed 5 or 6 and routed the unit. They killed some other peasants with bows too. Lost 1 man in the whole battle, killed and captured about 50 and gained 2 valour.

at one of my inns sometime. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
Mmmmm...
As a Catholic player I must ask are they available as mercenaries?

Never seen any. Maybe it`s because they are fanatics, don`t know. Maybe they are just too stoned to go to the inn... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

They tended to appear in Rebellions in egyptianheld provinces. So you can incite a revolt in a province which belongs or belonged quite recently to egyptians and hope that *hashishin* will appear there too. Then you can buy them for several K florins if the general has no stars.
Small problem is that I saw that in prepatch.
The egyptians can produce the troop in late age I guess. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

yup those hashisin are interesting:) i remember that i used put ninjas in the forrest ansd ambush from there incoming enemy or i put them bewteen naginanta when defending a bridge;
in M:TW i havent many posibilities tu use them; i remember i have 4 units of them that guard my sultan; in battle i used them only one time against some byz inf in woods; they route those byz ( although that byz unit have only 60-70 )
in history the hasishin were religious fanatics; their chief was some old man called "The Old Man From The Mountain" ;they were great assasins;

Yes, his name was Hassan iben-Sabbah and he was the father of modern terrorism. His assassins (the term comes from "Hashishin") inhabbited a rocky fortress in Egypt. They were desrtoyed by the Mongols later.
I got an in game message about these people while i was playing Egypt.
Can anyone tell me how to train these units? I looked all over my provinces for one that can train these units but i could not find any?

You need a master swordsmith and a mosque (or a ribat? something like that). They are pretty high level and don`t show up soon.

Before the patch, I had a rebellion that consisted of an entire stack of Hashishin. That was.... odd.
The fortress of the Old Man of the Mountain was in fact located in present-day Iran (it was called Alamut, translating to something weird like "eagle's teachings").
It is said that the hashisim were so fanatical since their leader gave them a drug that induced visions of paradise, e.g. hashish. After they had seen what awaited them, death held no terror to them. While I've never heard anyhing to either disprove or verify this theory, it is fairly common (appearing, for example, in The Count of Monte Cristo).
I wouldn't call the Hashisin the first terrorists, though. They were the first political assassins, but did not, to my knowledge, engage in acts of terror, per se.

are'nt they a bit powerful for a twelve man unit?i once used them on a frontal attack against a unit of byz catphracts and they actually killed 18 katphracts plus their emperor before they fledalso 12 men shooting arrows sound like total BS but when i tried them they killed a few kataphracts before going to melee(total 21 out of the 40)
Well, they are roughly equivalent to highly trained assassins (and are high on weed to boot) so they are exceptionally tough for a 12-man unit. On the grand scheme of things, it tends to be a moot point. They never did much in my egyptian force, for one thing. Sure, they decimated 1-2 units at best, but I rather had Abessinians.
