Hi all,

Total War: WARHAMMER is official! Taking the series to a realm of brutal, high fantasy for the first time in its history, our rules have changed and with change comes war on a scale as yet unimagined.

The limitlessly deep and rich universe of Warhammer heralds a new era for Total War. Gigantic monsters, flying creatures, legendary heroes and storms of magical power take their place on the battlefield, alongside thousands of warriors clashing in real-time tactical battles.

In the turn-based campaign game, players will find the Old World an unforgiving and treacherous place, filled with endless war and cunning alliances alike. Whichever race you choose to play as and however you seek conquest, you will be faced with a conflict that threatens to tear the very fabric of reality asunder.

The first in an epic trilogy of titles, Total War: WARHAMMER will deliver hundreds of hours of absorbing gameplay. It will combine with two further standalone instalments and additional content packs to create the single largest Total War experience ever.

“We’ve always loved the Warhammer universe, and couldn’t wait to approach it with the same colossal scale and authenticity that has characterised our titles for the last 15 years,” said Total War: WARHAMMER Project Lead, Ian Roxburgh. “We’re bringing it to life in a way that nobody’s attempted before.”

20 years ago there was a game that got me like only Total War did later on and that was "Warhammer-Shadow of the Horned Rat", later came Dark Omen and that was also great. I am very curious (since those were somewhat linear campaigns with only a few branching missions) as to how will the strategy layer work.

I played SotHR and DarkOmen before TW. When CA made the battles larger and added the Civ-like campaign, I was hooked. Hopefully TW:WH will have larger battles than the old games (they were Warband-style skirmishes which suited the linear campaign, same with Mark of Chaos from a few years ago), but I can't see how the campaign will look like a traditional TW-style domination game and still be true to the fluff. When the Orks overrun Nuln, or Chaos takes Praag, the population flees or perishes. I'm curious to see how they handle this.

Awesome!

My only fear was that it would turn out to be one of CA's flakey console hybrid strategy/action titles; A Warhammer: Battle for Stormrise Warrior, if you will.

I dont have a problem with CA making this or other fantasy titles. I do think if it becomes there main focus it will be a mistake. Total wars foundations going back to the late nineties is a historicly based battle sim. When dragons and wizards replace spearmen and archers its just not Total war.

nah. total war is the game style, and has always been adaptable to the theme.

i appreciate that TW would be different if they abandoned the historical time periods, but we're not there (yet)

This move into fantasy was a very long time coming. I've always wanted CA to continue with historical settings and since they have for no less than 15 years I can't complain about the adaptation of such a popular franchise.

I'm looking forward to Total War: Warhammer.

I agree its a great engine to adapt for a fantasy game tho I always thought Lord of the rings would be first. I know theres a middle earth mod out there. For that matter game of thrones is screaming out for the same! . . . . . Any way CA all i want is medievel3total war... please.

A lot of people felt that way when Empire came out - traditional TW starts to drag once you introduce firearms, but a lot of other people liked ETW and NTW (I skipped them).

Pretty damn amusing there's been no post in this forum in a month. I feel about this excited about Warhammer myself.
