I just started playing as the Danish, and so far i really like it... although it took me a while to get my economy going. But i've noticed that whenever I start a war with another faction (usually over control of the sea...and i'm still not entirely clear on exactly how the whole shipping route thing works when ships from other factions are present), all, and I mean all, of our mutuall allies choose me This has happened several times, and I can't recall a single one that chose the other side. Anyone else notice this?
Hey Devil,
If you're doing fairly well, and have a strong Army, the other factions will fall over themselves to remain allied to you when hostilities break out.
The only thing to watch for when you are going for control over the seas, is that any ship belonging to your enemies will be Blockading trade and passage in whatever section of water the enemy ship is occupying.
To quickly see if anyone is doing this, push the V button down on the campaign map. Safe waters are green, blockaded waters are red.
Only enemy ships will blockade you. Before declaring war on an enemy, it's a good idea to just check the waters and make sure they don't have 15 ships against your 1 in an area of water that is vital for your trade routes.
Hope that's helpful.

I've had just the opposite experience as the Danes. Most of the time, my allies choose the faction I've just gone to war with. And I was always in the top 4 in points for GA, usually top 2. I think you can become too powerful, and force the AI to make the other factions gang up on you.

I've played about a billion HRE campaigns and sooner or later the Danish grow the balls to attack Saxony (and since it's a river province, they get horribly butchered, and I suffer almost no casualties)---
They have at MOST three provinces, usually less, I have a huge navy, huge army, a buttload of provinces, and I lose ALL MY ALLIANCES. I always think "Oh, for Christ's sake" when the Danes finally attack because I have to strengthen all my borders. This makes no sense since I squish the Danes like bugs about ten years later. Is it just that everybody hates the Germans or what?
Edited:: When I say "huge army, huge navy" I mean compared to the Danes. The French and the English are usually throwing massive armies at each other by this time, and the Egyptians are slugging it out with the Almohads with thousands of men down in Africa, so it's NOT that I'm too powerful, believe me. If that was the case, then I wouldn't care http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Danes are pretty easy to play with. Good begginer Faction to use.

So people say... I find them quite hard. Give me Spain or the Turks anyday.

Hehe... I took saxony 3 or 4 years after I started, once I had norway and sweden. I moved in with my King and a few units of vikings and the HRE abandoned the province without a fight... and in 2 years, the asked me for an alliance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif .
And so far, (i'm in the mid 1200's), the HRE garrisons adjacent to saxony have been relativly small. I could probably take a few more, but i'm busy beating the snot out of france http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ... and after they were nice enough to distract england for me, too.
