Sooo, the next TW title has just been announced. Watch the trailer below.

To Warhammer fans, this is a dream come true. For the rest of the TW community who wants historicals, the CA team is working on this (with another dedicated game team) but they won't abandon the historicals, as was mentioned by Will in the official thread.

Thoughts?

Im certainly looking forward to see what they will make of this. I dont think that the TW series has ever dealt with flying units before so Im interested to see how they approach it.

There were dragons in TATW, if I remember correctly, but I believe that their implemanation was not particularly smooth.

Lukewarm about this at best. I'd much rather be seeing another historical TW title (i.e., M3).

That said, will I buy and play WH? Mmmm...probably.

Just found out that there will be no mod support for this game, as apparently Games Workshop is very protective of things like this. As one Redditor said,

Expecting Mod Support when Games Workshop is involved is like expecting the SS to hand out ice cream after they finish burning a village.

GW are very trigger happy when it comes to their IP.

Note also that unlike the previous two TW titles this trailer was pre-rendered.

So we have no idea what the game might actually look like.

I predict it'll either be fun or it'll really, really, suck. That would be a shame because if CA produce another game like Rome 2 SEGA will probably shutter them.

Ive heard its a different team than the normal TW team working on it, so if it bombs I dont think Sega will shutter CA. Also consider that CA also made the very good Alien Isolation game so no real reason to shutter CA if this bombs.

Warhammer has a massive fanbase so there are a lot of people who are definitely looking forward to play TW:Warhammer.

It's not a huge risk, but as CA sold itself to SEGA the latter can shutter the former, cherry pick the people it wants and shift total war to a different studio. They already re-named and then closed CA Australia.

I expect I'll buy it, but not new.

The historical element is critical to my enjoyment of the Total War series, so I strongly expect to skip this one.

I don't frankly care what CA does these days. I increasingly view them the same way I do bioware. Capable of making interesting games a long time ago and not really much like that company any more today.

Time is my constraint, so short of CA producing something hailed as a GOTY I've no time for them among all the other great work being done on the PC today.

Warhammer gives CA more time to focus on their upcoming historical title, because with this coming out next year or so, we can expect the historical title to be at least a year away from Warhammer.

Hopefully something amazing.

Aka Medieval 3. :book:

That too could be a good idea, but it's still some time away from us anyhow.

Napoleon 2 could also be an option...

I have very little interest in a TW:Warhammer. I have played the series since Shogun, and bought all of it except Shogun: Mongol Invasion. I hope they will not forget that delivering a chronically unstable game like Rome II was at the start, is never good. One trend I hope they reverse, is the seeming neglect of city maps. Atilla does have about six unique maps, but structures constructed don't appear on the map like has happened since MTW: Viking Invasion.

Magic, spells and dragons has come to totalwar. I think I just died a little bit inside.

Eh dont worry, the historical TW games will go on as usual, its a different TW dev team working on this title.

At the moment I could just play Call of Warhammer mod for my Warhammer Fantasy fix though in general for myself Warhammer isn't really that enjoyable recently because of Gamesworkshop being a bunch of baboons with the lore, miniature prices, plus balancing so I've already given up on the Warhammer franchise a few years ago. Though I still like some older stuff or iirc Matrix games or something released that turn based WH40k combat game which looks nice form what I've seen.

Medieval 2 was quite good (original MTW still the best), plus the amount of quality mods really make it a lot of fun.

So, yes, Medieval 3. :knight:
