View Full Version : [Submod] Recruit all the psiloi and Hoplitai Haploi in a Hellenistic Poleis

This was something that bugged me slightly about the implementation of the Hellenistic Poleis and it's recruitment. It featured some, but not all of the psiloi (Akontistai at the first level, Toxotai at all), and it didn't have Sphendonitai at all. Furthermore, only Koinon Hellenon had the option of recruiting Hoplitai Haploi, and it seemed to me that if you had a significant and cohesive Greek polity, surely you'd be able to recruit the lowest class of hoplite?

So I've messed around with the export_descr_buildings.txt to make it so. As a result of this change you can:

Recruit Hoplitai Haploi and Sphendonitai at all three levels of Hellenistic Poleis
Recruit Akontistai at the two higher levels (previously it could only be done at the lowest)

This applies to all the factions that can recruit Greek troops from them - Baktria, Epeiros, Koinon Hellenon, Pergamon, Pontos, Ptolemaioi, Seleukids.

How to install:
1) Go into [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data and copy your existing export_descr_buildings.txt and put it somewhere safe - this is your backup to restore if things go wrong.
2) Download this new 15128 to [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data
3) Delete map.rwm from [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data\world\maps\base
4) Start EBII and start a new campaign
5) Enjoy!

Note this is NOT savegame compatible, you need to start a new campaign for the changes to take effect.

Furthermore, this isn't an offically-endorsed submod, just something I was tinkering around with after people complained they couldn't recruit slingers as Epeiros.

I've decided to do some pruning of the first EDB to fit with the concept I have: that the Poleis represents the civic/civilian elements embodied in the market, temples and gymnasium, rather than the military elements of the colony. Thus they should only grant levy/militia type units, not professional soldiers. Furthermore, there's an assumption about the wealth level of the Greek community, and thus there's no cavalry with a Minor Hellenistic Poleis.

Changes from before:

Baktrioi Hippotoxotai and Baktrioi Hippeis removed entirely - you need a colony or government building to recruit these.
Kretan Archers and Kretan Peltastai removed - they're mercenaries and factional troops now.
Hippakontistai removed from the Minor Polis - you need at least a polis_two for them now.
Epilektoi Hoplitai removed - they're factional troops and professionals and so don't fit.
Phalangitai removed - again factional/colony troops.

From a gameplay perspective, this means the benefit is less and does not overlap with either military colonies or factional government buildings. It also makes the Poleis a more distinct choice.

Lastly, from a technical viewpoint, it's less likely to max out the recruitment roster, which might do horrible things.

Installation is the same as before:
How to install:
1) Go into [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data and copy your existing export_descr_buildings.txt and put it somewhere safe - this is your backup to restore if things go wrong.
2) Download this updated 15130 to [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data
3) Delete map.rwm from [your M2TW directory]\mods\EBII\data\world\maps\base
4) Start EBII and start a new campaign
5) Enjoy!

Once again, NOT savegame compatible.

A sideways evolution on the one above, I've removed the "AI Boost" sections of the unit replenishment code, which might reduce spam a little, or maybe even quite a bit. It was only put on Hellenistic factions, but given one of those is the Seleukids, it could still be significant. Paired with the removal of Phalangitai from the Hellenistic Poleis should mean the AI has less phalanxes to throw about.

Here it is: 15135

Same installation as above, and as usual not savegame compatible.

Slight update on the one above with my variant Poleis: the Bosporans were missed off the Hellenistic Poleis, so they miss out on a load of recruitment options. Fixed now: 15158.

EDIT: The first one of these was broken; this one works.
