View Full Version : Creative Assembly Wanton Destruction of Property
Hey Guys,
Some of you may have noticed that buildings in the game, houses, barns and such, can be destroyed.
When a Church or a Mosque is destroyed, do the appropriate Units take a penalty?
i.e., I'm assaulting a Muslim Castle with Catholic forces. My artillery destroys a Mosque. Are the enemy disheartened?
If not, should they be?
What do you all think?

(You can destroy buildings with your Armies too. The building takes damage, and eventually, little flaming torches start being tossed about around the building, before you level it in flames - Cool)
Historically, devastation of the surrounding countryside, in plain view of a besieged fortress, was a very typical tactic back then of demoralizing the garrison, and/or enraging them to come out and fight in the open.
The downside to this tactic was it tended to deprive the besiegers of valuable food and shelter outside the walls, making the siege tougher for them.
But in game terms, no, I don't think any of these things occur, and detroying buildings has no effect.
Destroy a Mosque or a Church and demoralize the enemies? You must be kidding.
The first Crusade starts when the news (false or true, but still news that reached Western Europe) that a church was destroyed in Jerusalem.
Indian-Pakistani Wars are fought over Kashmir, with the alleged destruction of a Mosque or a Temple (trying to be neutral here... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif)
Back to the game: there is no diference if you destroy mosques and churches in the game, I believe.

so nothing at all happens when you destroy buildings. your general doesn't gain dread? peasants aren't cowed? no extra pillage monies? no unwanted pregnacies? surely something should happen when destroying structures. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Flip side of this...
I once destroyed one of my own chapter houses to get rid of a crusade. The rebellion that followed was massive http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
Oops. I'm out of context here...you must be talking about during sieges and such....bowing out and looking for a place to hide

If you mean, does destroying buildings on the battlemap have any affect on anything on the campaign map: no, there's no connection.
