Has anyone noticed any sort of penalty for desert units that are fighting in say, scandanavia? From a realistic standpoint, it would seem to make sense. Just wondering, as I am playing as the danes and considering invading a north african province or two (the italians are getting a leetle too big for thier britches, if ya ask me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).

yeah camels and some other units (not sure which ones) get their problems in what is termed as 'lush' territories.
Camels get a bonus in deserts +1 to attack and def. Get nothing in Arid and gets a penalty in Lush and Temperate. I think Desert Archers and Saharan Cavalry get something too, but I'm not sure, what I do know is that Nubian Spearmen work just as well in a blizzard as in the desert. Quite funny considering they are only dressed in a shirt and a belt.

Maybe they have particularly warm belts http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well, it might actually help them... How do you think a big heavy chain mail shirt feels in the winter? Warm?

AAAArrghhh....it's getting kinda cold here...'think I'm a gonna put some armor on http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
You are trying to wear the armour directly? I think many men don't know how to dress themselves and are out of touch with fashion... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Armour are worn over thick clothing, some of them are lined with leather, wool or other material. This is simple to avoid blisters by having metal-to-skin contact.
Back to the game: the Muslim armies got penalized if fight in Western or Eastern Europe. This is a double penalty because Muslim army aready is penalized by not able to buy better armour units (the scnatly clad Egyptians seem to be advertising for Victoria Secret and have a life span of a fly in the game).

I remember one amusing battle I had in Scotland. My army was a horde of vikings... and I was up against the likes of camels. The fact the battle took place during a heavy storm added even more to the "weirdness" of the battle. If only it were snowing as well. Needless to say... I won.
Moral of the story. Dont use camels in Scotland.

No it is certainly not warm, metal transfers heat and cold very well. But consider this: A heavy chainmail is worth lamost nothing if you don't have anything to soak up the energy of the blow, so most soldiers wore padded armour underneath the mail to recieve a heavy blow. And the padded armour was thick, and I mean thick It could most likely keep the man warm during winter, while a think linnen shirt that only goes to your knees does not even protect against the winds.
