A bit frail. I use these guys mostly as fillers and garrison troops.

Muwahid....

On defense I set up a basic line of 100 man spear-type units, with faster units in reserve on the flanks. Muwahid, being of high morale and fleet of foot, serve admirably as those reserves.

As spearmen, the Muwahid are the best choice to face flanking cavalry, even heavys, until relief can reach them. Their high morale will enable them to stand alone in the face of losses til then.

As they are fleet, they are quite useful in flanking manuevers against your foe. They are better in pursuit than armored foot, obviously.

With armor upgrades they show themselves to be very tough to break.

One last note on morale.... with good leader V&V's their morale can reach the 20's and those boys will fight to the last man without breaking.

ah say they rock i use them with saracens(since all 3 islamic factions get them)or nubians if playing al mohads, good flankers and very high morale

As Egyptian I rarely used them. Sar Inf are better and even Nubian should defeat them. Nice morale, though. Use them if you have a morale problem. Otherwise sar inf.

well i find them useful in a fast paced castle siege, thier high morale keeps them in line where other more expensive troops would run. You just have to be careful not to let them get flanked

Shaihulud is right, they are perfect holding the flanks and protecting the bigger and more brittle spearunits.
I have also found them to be great at filling the gaps in the lines. There is nothing like a heavy charge like their into a tired unit...
2-3 of these are good, more I think is too much

I always hated these guys playing Catholic factions and fighting the Turks. They are like the Tasmanian Devil, they would run up and start chewing away at whatever unit got near them, rarely rout, and rally for another assault soon after the infrequent routs. A real pain in the tush They would always be the first units I would arbalest to death (along with camels/ghulam).

I like Muwahid and even more than Saracen.

Muwahid is cheaper to get (225 vs 300), cheaper to maintain, slightly faster run (12 vs 10) and charge (13 vs 11), much higher morale (4 vs 0). The lack of armour (1 vs 3) and negative defense stat (-1 vs 3) may put it in detriment of the better charge (7 vs 5) and melee (1 vs -1).

Get Muwahid away from enemy fire (so the lack of armour doesn't show), use them on flanking (make use of their strong attack and better morale), produce them in province that has armour workshop, use them more often in battle to get their valour up (and they tend to get valour up faster than Sarecen) to improve their defense, are a few techniques to compensate for their fragility.

Handle with care (same as other Muslim faction units), but they will delight you of what they could do.

I tend to put the Saracen in front line to engage the enemy and absorb arrows while flank with Muwahid and Ghazi.
