Well I've answered all the polls so far but is it really worth anuthing. I mean I think the purpose of this polling is to gather info. but what is everyone gathering for ???? LOL Did anyone do any market Research or Statistics, if so u'd prolly never have so many polls

The byzantines are the best but I would love to play as the golden horde without using a buggy mod.

I'm with Xer0 on this and I speak of MP. From what I've seen Byzantines appear very strong, the Muslim factions seem weak.
Let's have the opportunity to play as the Horde, both SP and MP

I really think the English are one of the best to use. I normally do well with them, at least until I tick of the Almohads and end up being invaded via sea.
Interesting question, especially for SP. I am surprised to see the English do so well. I started with them, although I find the HRE more challenging. Why do people like the English? I suspect it is their initial strategic position. It is fairly secure, being in the "corner" bordering only France, but there are interesting choices for for future expansion (Ireland/Scotland/Wales; France + continent; Scandinavia+Baltic; Portugal+Middle East etc). They have a couple of nice special units (longbows+billmen) and their Catholic glorious achievements - crusades - are quite fun.

The HRE are certainly a challenge, tried them a few times, but am only going for a serious campaign with them now.
The most statisfying SP games been with the Poles though, so far, got a real sense of achievement when Russia turned blood red.

Spain offers some insanely rich provinces in the high to late games. And if you do a good job of blitzing the muslims in the early game, you can usually eliminate the Alhomads threat, and if you're feeling really ballsy, as I was, you can take Egypt. This is all providing that you do it soon enough. I usually just hold Spain and campaign through the middle east.

Spanish have been cool too. And I definitely have to play Turks, Byz, Italians and Russians. And the rest, of course.

Egypt, I like their position (they can take on anyone along the mediterranean coast, and Syria is easy picking from the turks, which gives a lot of money. And if you want a challange you can attack Byzantines. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Though for some perculiar reason, Alhomeds seem to be attracted to your Southern Posterior like magnets.

No seriously, I have voted France but really don't think that in MTW it is the "most enjoyable faction". The English of the game are cool, I admit because of their starting position and also because of the longbowmen (I really LOVE archery in general).
Btw, I like Byzantium too...

Well, we all tend to "enjoy" best the factions representing our ancestors. So I realy realy enjoy the Byzantines, but I must admit that HRE is the most challenging and enjoyable faction, if you are not a european/muslim player.
I've voted Byzantium. I love Varangian guard and Kataphraktois.

well i'll speak about SP; i played almost all factions except Almohads and Egyptians
i consider enjoyable the hard to play faction;
so i like the french in the first era; they have split territories and no special units;
the i like the poles and turks in equal part;the have not so good starting position and very powerful enemies;
HRE is very interesting to play especially because of their position

Even though i vote for byzantine for all the rich land, cheap and quite good unit loyal citizens and genrals. But i like the almohads too for their militaz( they rocks) and btw my Dad nearly conquor the whole of europe with his cheap army of danish vikings and man at arm. Hey dude whatz yo core unit in your army.
The English- suppose I'm biased cos I'm from the Uk- well, Wales really and one of the English's nest units is the Welsh Longbowman.

Plus theres also the famous Crusading Kings - Richard III, Henry v and billmen.
I separate two things :
- the "most enjoyable faction" of THE GAME (not reality).
- the "most enjoyable faction" in real life, and this can depend of many factors (nationality, interests ...)
I like playing as England (England IN THE GAME only, of course, ... heh) cause they are fun to play.
BUT

You are right. I already have written that I enjoy the Byzantines because I am Greek and love to play Germans because they have deep gameplay. English are very nice though. I have never played the French because it's frustrating to have no special units. French where famous for their Knights. Maybe to have many provinces with honour boost for them is not enough. IMO French should have Chivalric Knights for a special unit.

The best for me so far, because it has been the most challenging is the French in the middle period, on expert. Split into 3 different areas,with no troop building facilities at all in the Middle East, and lots of very aggresive Egyptians.
I survived there using almost exclusively mercs for many years to see the end of the Egyptians, only then to have the Turks fall on me. As for the homelands, managed to see off the English, but now facing mega Spanish armies all with 6-8 star generals , presumably gained whilst taking out the Almo's.
Oh, and I got excommunicated when I refused entry to my Palastine to a bunch of no hope English crusaders......big mistake, would have been better to move out, let the Egyptians crush them , and then move back in.
Anyway, its been a case of clinging on in all areas and I'm still in deep poo. (But have taken Constantinople tee hee by amphibious assualt)

i've been playing the polish. their position is next to impossible. they start with 300 spears, the kings unit, a damaged urban militia of 40 men, and a unit of horse archers they can never build or repair. before the patch they were hard...now...sigh. i used to be able to rebuild the strength of my horse archer unit by hireing a cav arch merc, but that was changed with the patch. you can't combine mercs anymore. (why is that?) also, their starting lands... poland, which is the shinano of mtw, and selisia(i question the spelling), which sticks out like a sore thumb, makeing it impossible for you to defend your lands from the germans without haveing four armies instead of three, as you don't have the bottleneck a straight line of provinces gives you. the lands they have to conquer or die quick are pagans, which you must keep garrisoned for years before moving on. if you survive lithuania, then you deal with the russian boyars. and for what, the poorest lands and the first targets of the mongols. if by some chance you decide to go west against the germans first, you face outrageous numbers and the possibility of ex-communication. not to mention the constant crusades that ravage your lands on the way to russia and the byzantine empires. and this, inspite of the fact you are catholic, and can't crusade your self. as for tech, you start with a bailey, and don't even have a royal palace. so it takes a minimum of 14 years before you can build royal nights. dam, it's great http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

I voted Italian, because I like their starting posistion and there incredible choice of units. They havethe largest roster of units avalible to them in the game, many of which are alota fun to use, Like italian Infantry, Halbardiers, Gendarmes, Mounted Crossbowmen, Gothic Seargents and Gothic Knights annnd Hospitaler footknights.
Also, Recreateing the Roman empire is fun ;p

After playin 2 campaigns as the turks I have to say I love Janissary heavy infantry. I started producing them in castille because of the Iron deposits. With the max weapon upgrade they are killdozers. I use six of them in every army supported by Turcomon horse, Armenian HC, & some ottoman/futtuwas (its shameful that you have to wait till 1325 to use the ottoman infantry)
The turks don't get arbalests which means I have to use different tatics when playing as them so it makes a nice change
Yeah, Italian infantry are the best mercs with the Vikings. And that was historicly accurate too.
I'd also vote for poles - they are impossible ... :o) with them you'll understand the true meaning of total war - there is not enough money, men or time you have with other factions. Even now, when i have conquered all north, half HRE, Hungary, Balcan - i'm facing continuous rebellions in baltics and russian provinces, Novgorodians reappeared with swarms of order foot soldiers, chivalric nights and royal nights twice before I decided they have the right to sit tight in Perejaslavl (on low income province) ... Spaniards have their hordes in byzantium and chewing their way through france ... i have to face them ... but since my trade collapsed with war with HRE and Byz. I'm about 4000 in deficit ... I think, they beat me again ... as they have done so many times i've played poles ... they are the best indeed ...

I always play the Italians when I can in MP so I voted for them. However, in SP I had the most fun with the Spainish. They get great crusades, extra money, can fight England and France, as well as the Muslims - not too hard to get to the Pope - best of all worlds overall- except for Portugal

Nobody has said Russia. It can be kind of cold there but you can build a nice army of Boyars, Steppe cav and Horse Archers (infantry also of course) to out Mongol the Golden Horde. Out of 9 battles with them so far I've been victorious in 6. In the 3 I lost I really should have abandoned the province because I was hopelessly outnumbered......1685 against 157 in the first battle http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

For Catholic factions, the English is the best. They have a strategic position to develope if the French are eliminated early and U can get Wales, Scotland, Ireland & Mercia early in the game to produce a variaty of great units compared to other catholic factions for ur conquest. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

My order of preferrence (so far):

2.Polish--something about this faction is simply awesome. I find them much more exciting to play then the French or English (Russians are fun though!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

i think the byzantines are the best , one of the reasons is because there are many different ways to play since you can attack south north west or go for sea domination. + the cool units they have. i also enjoy the Almohands for their AUM and the Italians.

I'd vote but.... I dont see the Russians anywhere on that list.
Max entries are 10. Russians are not in early and most of forum players begin in early (64%).So I guess that Russians and Polish where my least bad options.

The Poles? They are Popes henchmen. Who should I eliminate to have Poles in...the poll? Maybe someone should make a new poll comparing the Polls with the Almohads or the Germans.

The turks were fun but havent measured up to the Italians yet.
Well, Italian Infantry will do...the best mercs in the game after Vikings.
I would say the Danes because of starting position, and they don't have access to the easily abused crusade.

However I do not think my fellows are the hardest faction, at least in early period. There is a lot of neutral, weak provinces in the east for quick expansion to create quite strong solid state.

i only use the early mod and outremer, so i dont evven know whats legitimate anymore - it seems to me that the limeys, danes and byzntines are the best early on, but the french are best throughout. people hate germany and attack them too much to be as awesome as they should be. almohad rules, and egypt rules though i play them infrequently. the ones i never play are the sicilians and the italians. i guess im just way too celtic

Why did so many people vote for the English faction?
I perwsonally think the English are one of the more boring factions out there.... am I missing something (in which case please elaborate), or is it simply a question of loads of brits voting for the english faction by default?

nah - i personally love using the irish, scot and welsh units early on in the game where they are really usefull. With paladin's early1092 mod, the english also protect themselves from flanders with a ship in the channel.
you also dont really have to worry about too many crusades passing through your lands in the mod cuz you ony have normandy on the mainland
i dont remember what the original game was like for the english, but the mod makes them fun to play - really detached and able to flourish like the english did in the middle ages - otherwise, i remember that they used to get crushed early on by the french
