Hey http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Am I missing something because after the patch, I can't seem to produce Chilvaric unit (currently still in 1130's). Can't produce crossbowmen either. Do I have to wait until ~1210's for the "chivalric" era or something?

Yeah... you have to wait.

1205 is the beginning of the high period. also, even after you have built docks and the compass is created, you still have to waiit till 1205. gunpowder comes around 1260, but you still can't build the gunpowder units till around 1300's, but you can be ready for them.

yeah, its kinda good and bad, i guess it promotes the use of other buildings and less specialised provs.. heaven forbid

ok... kinda fun waging war in the 1180's with feudal sgts and FAA instead of chiv units.

But why is xbow considered "high" unit?

Actually I wondered about this myself. What on earth? Why can't I build crossbowmen? Surely the crossbow cannot be that advanced, after all I know all about it... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

im sure x-bows were the answer to knights.. in france at least anyway... i thought they emerged about the same time as chivalry

my two penneth worth - this sucks.

i can understand that if you let it just be a race to get certain buildings to create certain units, then it would unbalance things, so i don't mind waiting, but why oh why can i build a gunsmtih but can't make gun-wielding units?

what is the gunsmith doing in the meantime? producing novelty arquebus cigarette lighters?

or maybe its an internet boom type of business, where he just spent loads of money setting up his gunsmithing business to be 'ahead of that curve', build up his brand profile, and get customers familiar with the concept of fire sticks... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

Sandy if it is so bad go and MOD this yourself. It is quite easy, just add the period you want the units to be available in to the crusade_unit_prod file.

I have no problem with some of the units being period restricted. Whats faintly ridiculous (re the xbows) is that at least one rebel army starts with them & you can usually get mounted xbows as mercs quite early on. I'm not sure arbalests are restricted either.
