Need to test these units more..
Ghazi die faster but kill faster and have better moral by 2 @ same cost...
But which would u take and why?

Personally, I use the Abyssinian Guard. I pump up their valour, which compensates for the lower attack, and I find that they last longer than Ghazi due to their defense values.

You get Abyssinian Guard only if play Egyptian. For other Muslim faction, you only have Ghazi.

Their cost is the same, but their stat is different. The Ghazi are more offensive than the Abyssinian:

Ghazi/Abyss.: run and charge faster (12/10 13/11), better charge, better melee (6/4 5/4) but has much worst defense (-4/0). Both units have high morale (8/6), so morale is probably not an issue.

In Single Play, the Ghazi needs a Mosque because they are very religious, so Ghazi is harder to get than Abyssinian.

Annie's take: if you are Egyptian, produce more Abyssinian. The slightly better attack side of the Ghazi couldn't compensate for the abyssmal (pun intended http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif) defense.

Remember, these guys are good against armour units but have no anti-cav property and are easily slaughtered by cav. That's where the Muwahid comes into the picture. The Muwahid stave off the cav while the Abyss/Ghazi does the deed.

Ghazi...

Why? They are fast, they charge and attack better and finally, this might not matter much to most players but to me it does, the Ghazi have shields.

Ghazis need more attention than the Abyssinians due to their worse defence, but from the front it is not that much worse and they can take arrows much better than Abyssinians and they are faster so they are under fire for a much shorter time. Their speed also makes them easier to maneuver into a flanking attack. And it is in flanking that these types of troops shine, it is not in head on combat.

And btw, I think Vikings are overpriced compared to these guys.

True, the Abyssinian has no shield while the Ghazi has a small shield. This should help a bit against arrows.

I found that I can distill much more efficiently Ghazi (they returned from combat a handful of very improved soldiers each time). Abyss die a lot too, but not as much.

what are you talking about? cost the same??
ghazi have maintance 30, abyssinian 75 (or did that change post-patch and I`m totally wrong?), so you can have 2,5 ghazi for one abyssinian unit. I think they`re useless.

Since only Egypt can take Abyssinians, and Egypt is (unless you are a very, very bad player) absolutely _loaded_ right from the start even in early, I dont think cost is such an issue.

With Egypt I tend to just buy the best troops money can buy, and damn the cost. They've got so many provinces that can churn out absolute huge amounts of money that you can have quality _and_ quantity.

I dislike Ghazi because you have to replace them after every other battle, which is a pain when campaigning far from your home provinces.

Abyssinians it is for me, though Saracen Infantry remain the mainstay.
