Apart from the Alan Merc? Which Cav u like best and why?

Call me boring but i really like chivalric knights. Nice reliable cavalry that will hold its own against anything and packs a punch in a charge. Also in sp the chivalaric foot knights with stop anything in defence.

Honestly though FasT I do not use them as the nomad peoples of my Steppe Cavalry understand orders better

Boyars all the way
Gotta love a unit that can run knights ragged then turn around and smack them down http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Probably the most versatile cavalry out there.
Byz. Calvary, or boyars. both can hold their own in melee and both can skirmish.
The question is quite general ... like : " Which kind of Cannons do you like better : Anti-Tank-Guns, Artillery, or Anti-Aircraft ? "
Answer : Depends on my Enemy
The Cavalry unit I like best because of it kewl look : Teutonic Knights ( GOD WANTS IT )
Light Cavalry I like best to flank and chase the Enemy : Spanish Jinettes ( love their Javelins )
Heavy Cavalry I like best is : Gothic Knights ( Armour piercing makes them the best )
Mounted Archers I like best are : Boyars ( of course )

For me it has to be Boyars
Very versatile unit that can be battle winners in many cases.
I also like lancers just cos they are so Hard

When playing as the Byzantines: Byz. Cavalry and (due to the lack of a light cavalry type for the Byzantines) Steppe Cavalry (yeah, I go for Khazar ASAP).
Novgorod-Russians: Boyars are awesome. One of the best mounted units in this game.
When playing Italy-HRE: Gothic Knights. They are bloody tanks, all the way.
Spain: Jinettes (allthough the micromanagement they require can be tedious) and Lancers (because they are bloody tanks too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
Other catholic factions: None particulary, but I use light cavalry (hobilars, Polishretainers etc.) alot and to great effect.
I don't have great success using muslim cavalry, besides saharan (again, due to my affection to fast, versatile light cavalry).

Indeed HopAlong, it has to be lancers all the way, they rule so much andafter they have kicked ass a few times and they have some Valour they just don't die.

Favourite Cav that I've used would have to be Gothic Knights.
Least Favourite Cav that's been used against me would easily be Boyars. Those guys are amazing. I will definitely be giving the Russians a go in a campaign soon.

For me, Jinettes, Boyars, Byz Cavalry, Gothic Knights, and Hobilars make up my list. Obviously, I go for that mounted ranged thing, after that, its the units i like the most for the times I've played them.
Steppe Cav for light cav, they are light not like many of the other light cavs, so it is basically a quetion about feeling I guess.
Heavies... Gothics I guess.
Mounted Archers: Turcomans... True Horse Archers and I love them.
Hybrids: Byzantine Cav and Jinettes. Why not?
All in all, I have no fav cav.

I like the Kataphractoi Cav of the Byz. I have only played early period so do not have experience with all the late period fancy types mentioned above. Even as a non-Byz faction, I buy the merc Kats as having that early very heavy horse is great.
I suppose later on, looking that the stats, I would prefer the Lancer.

Lancers... carry 10-foot long starched Ramen Noodles as their weapons.
Gothics... carry 10-foot long starched Ramen Noodles etched with images of hunchbacks, gargoyles and Gotham City tourist attractions.
Boyars... pepper their foes with 2-feet long starched Ramen Noodles. Then, they charge home wielding swords made of the same material
But... only the Ramen Cavalry wear armor made of woven, hardenned Ramen Noodles... so, with their Ramen Noodle spears and their Ramen Noodle corsets, nobody can break these behemoths of the field (Except an adversary with no head, of course!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Boyars, because they're quite good at everything.
They're fast, strong in offense and defense, well armored, and can shoot.
Granted they're not the best at anything they do, but they can always use one of their other strengths against an enemy who outdoes them in one field.
They don't shoot as well as foot archers, but they double as (Quite decent) heavy cavalry, so they can just run them down, and even in an archery duel, their heavy armor allows them to win in the end.
They don't charge as well as most heavy cav, but they can skirmish, and if that fails, they melee better than a lot of heavy cav (Don't try this against gothics, obviously, but...) and they're faster than most heavy cavalry, so they usually don't get caught.
They're not quite as fast as most light cavalry, but they fight a great deal better, so if he charges his light cav into your Boyars you can just laugh and set them to engage at will.
And the main thing in their favor is the fact that because of their sheer versatility you can bring more of them to the field than whatever your opponent brings, because they serve as your archers, light cavalry, and heavy cavalry all rolled into one, so chances are when your tactics fail and your opponent forces your Boyars into dueling a unit that's better than them at something in the area they're inferior in, you can simply bury him under the weight of numbers.

Alan Merc.? I don't like them. They don't dress as nicely as the Knights...

Musashi Boyars are as fast/slow as most cav at 20/22 speeds.
They are faster than Camels, Kataphraktoi and Gothics.
But all other are as fast or faster. They are very expensive, but at least they are not slow.

Cool name? I must say Khrazmanian Heavy Cavalry and Armenian Heavy Cavalry (both available for Turk or Egyptian). Somehow I keep on remember the former as the "Tasmanian". I think the name is cooler than the Pornoaioi http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

One of the toughest fighters out there are the Armenian Heavy Cavalry...bloody hard to kill. Kataphraktoi are lethal but like all good things cost loads to maintain.Khmwarzian 9how the hell do you spell it???) are also very nasty shock cavalry but for all round cavalry its got to be Armenian heavy cav.same class as feudal knights but more fight and more power...the bane of many an assault into egyptian lands
Best cavalry? Depends on its type.
IMHO the best light cavalry - Steppe Cavalry. Cheap and rather useful in all kinds of battles.
The best medium cavalry - er...Byzantine cavalry or Feudal khights or may be mamluk cavalry
And the best heavy cavalry - as tanks - it's of course gothic knights or lancers. As multipurpose unit - chivalric knights and pronoi allagion.
Also I like khwarazmian cavalry.
