View Full Version : Norway can be a real money maker
Just a tip - like many people I always thought Norway was a waste of time and money. When I first took it, I tried building a port with some trade, but never got much. But you have to note (which I didn't) that Norway's port is in a very far north sea zone. When I corrected that and moved my ship into the right place, I found Norway generating between 450 and 650 florins per turn, with a first level trading post Not bad for a bunch of washed up Vikings http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah i have read posts from some people that they only take norway long after they have taken sweden because of the unit maintenance vs farm income is so poor.
But if you have an extensive trading fleet, or even just ships to gibralter, you make a lot of money out of the fish and lumber??
Worth taking and building up to a trading shipbuilding prov.

Vanya has gotten Norway to produce well over 1000 florins per year. Vanya thinks the number was around 1800, actually. Of course, Vanya had ships stretched out all the way to the Black Sea... Sweden was making over 4000 at the same time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Basically, in order to make money you have to pick the right enemies. As Germans (expert, early around 1220) 35000 per turn with 2 mill in the treasury. Once the Byzantines became my enemy income jumped down to 22000. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

sorry, holding both Sweden and Lithuania (both very close to each other) are one of the best combinations of trading-profit provinces in the game.
Norway doesn't come close, although if you have the extra money it doesn't hurt to upgrade it.

ah, but once everyone is at war with you, and you know that they will be, there is no more trade. sigh... i guess tradeing between your own peoples is out of the question.

The problem with norway is that it can be quite rebellious early on unless you are prepared to commit forces to pacify it. Thats the main reason for waiting until later but once pacified it can give a useful income if not the best.
I would like to reconfirm this:
Is this true that you can't trade with your own ports any more postpatch?
'Cause I have traded with myself pre-patch. My Italian empire was brought down too early to tell and I am in the process of rebuilding it.

It is now confirmed... Unfortunately cant trade with yourself. My wrong assumptions.
