Glad to see you back phonics. Guys, you up for a friendly co-op campaign of third age total war 3.2? Heavy on the RPing? Sure, we'll win in the end, but it will be light and fun.
I reinstalled that mod the other day, had a blast with it. 90 turn Gondor victory.

Man you rushed them hard. Didn't you get rekt by the script spawned armies of hell? I'm taking my Gondor campaing slowly, I want to explore the lategame units and build up megacities of humanity.
I've awlays gone with the High Elves untill now, but the wood elves, gondor and Rohan are all equally strong in a human's hands. Imba archers or cav stomping the AI's face...
I have not tried the Dwarves or Dale and I think they would be a challenge, but I think we definitely need a human lead Gondor and either High or Wood elves so that we take care of Saruman quickly.
I'm down for going with the less popular choices though, so I'll wait on the others for now. I'll advertise this on the other forums too.

I took Minas Ithil by dodging the garrison script, cavalry, especially General's Bodyguard are very important against Mordor - without them you'll lose. Basically won all my fights through cavalry and sometimes archers as well. Killing the witch kings army was a huge struggle, I had about 2.25/2.5 armies to take him down and still lost a lot of men. The Barad Dur garrison sucked but I got through it eventually. Harad was annoying but I stole a lot of their territories through aggressive raiding and pressure and they couldn't take them back, then I navally invaded them - stole Umbal without fighting the garrison script but fought the one in Amon Gobel - fuck mumakils (also took their last settlement before the extra spawned army could take one back). Basically really aggressive recruiting and pushing eventually led me to bust through, and fight back even though Rhun won an invasion on Barad Dur. Once I crushed Harad my fronts were basically secure and I mopped up the Black Gate and rest of Mordor - then into Mirkwood. Basically enough generals in an army and you can crush wave after wave of Orc.
Dale is one of my favourite factions, currently doing a campaign on the Massive Overhaul Submod which has been really fun. Absolutely crushed Rhun and now I'm being invaded by Mordor.
I'd prefer not to play Gondor because I just did a large campaign of them, though they are one of my favourite factions.

I would prefer not to do Gondor as well since that's what I've spent most of my time with already. I'd be into give Rohan a try though.
Then I must beard the brunt of the onslaught while my loyal allies make ready. Osgiliath will be restored!
Actually make that the high elves. I've not played them much.

That's strange. You installed 3.0 Parts 1 and 2, then 3.1 then 3.2?

The difference in version is because I am now using a steam version I think. I used to run the disc version but my cd drive broke so now I run the steam version.
I can load the Rohan save - can you still play the save?

I see the same thing when I try loading the game. I think it must be something to do with the steam version.
The issue is probably embedded in the exe, but I'm sure we managed to get around this issue in the past somehow. Might be worth peering around some other threads/forums to find someone talking about it.

Yeah I've been taking a look. I posted a thread on TWC, hope I get an answer soon.
I was able to run the game, so I think i'll just risk it and upload the save tonight.

Eeast Osgiliath falls,the filthy orc and goblin wretches who had taken it were butchered without mercy. Steward Denethor and his son and trusted men are preparing further expansions into the east and far west, and a diplomat rides even now to Rohan to sign formal relations between our people.

Steward Denethor has been forced to personally dispatch a band of fifteen score rangers of Ithilien who had turned to banditry and were no more than lowly highwaymen. It is a shame that such excellent and skilled troops had to be butchered by fellow men, instead of putting their service against the hordes of Sauron.
Our rider has reached Erebor and has provided our most recent maps to King Théoden. Two armies have set sail, one for Haard's coastal settlements and one for an island outpost to our south. A siege has begun in the far west, of a hamlet occupied by brigands. Cair Andros is steward Denethor's next mark.
So far, no notable armies have been seen stemming from Mordor or Haard. Agents will be sent on missions of espionage and quiet removal.

im feeling good. feeling big today really. aussis v scots. hah that s really been nice. these dudes. wild. great people, great all. that thing really got to me. still kinda glowing in mind. other than that yea im pretty much okay. in most ways things been good in others they didnt come along well. but yea that s life aint it. either way it s nice u guys are doing okay, going strong ur ways . thats great. also nice to kinda still have the throne room vibing gently. it s sorta like this special someone that even after a few months off u in some way continue to keep in touch with in ur heart

Steward Denethor has reclaimed Cairn Andros from the brigands which had occupied it. The river fortress is once again safe. He and his party also ranged further west and encountered a rag-tag orcish force. None lived to retreat back to the Black Gates.

Further south, it appears that while our small fleet proved too weak to be sent into hostile waters and has been scuttled by the Haradrim navy, our land forces severely outmatch the enemy. The rebel island settlement of Goben Tolfalas has been returned to the rule of Minas Tirith, and our third army has surprised the shah of Barad Harn and taken the city by valiant storm.
A large orcish force has been spotted south-west of Osgiliath, and we prepare to defend the city with all the might of our northern armies. The way to Minas Tirith shall be kept secure!

While our diplomats seek other free people of Middle Earth, such as the Dwarves, Elves of Lothlorien and the men of the Dale, to convince them to join our war and possibly provide us with gold, weapons, food, iron, leather and cloth. A rather uneventful season has passed, but Gondor's northern armies are now concentrated in East Osgiliath and prepare to dispatch any armies of Mordor within the vicinity.
The march to the capital of Haard continues, and Steward Denethor's primary focus within the kingdom has been the improvement of the king's roads from Minas Tirith to the major settlements along the coast.

If memory serves, Mordor can suddenly spew out two or three full stacks, so I'm camping In Osgiliath, since capturing tier 1 settlements will hardly impact my economy and I can't really keep them now as my second army is pushing into Haard. Visorslash did you wait for your upgraded units to be available? Or you just recruited stuff en-masse? Also, I think I definitely need to upgrade roads and mines to support my kingdom financially, and that requries a pause on investmetns for the time being.

I've been trying to focus my money on roads for the most part, while gathering all my troops to try to snipe Isengard without spawning the garrison.
I just recruited a bit and moved out with my stuff. Trying to take Ost Edhil, moving south with my western forces, gonna take a town this turn.

A medium sized Haradrim army and a small band of orcs have been butchered this season. The construction of a new merchant harbour in Pelargir promises an increase in trade along the river.

Isengard has fallen! The traitor Saruman fell in the fighting, (strangely, fighting alone against several hundred men while only attempting to batter us with his staff. Perhaps it was only a decoy.) hopefully never to be heard from again.
The men of the mark now ride east to subdue the evil men he had bound to his cause. We hope to soon join our borders with those of Rivendell.

Yeah, thats how you would do it. Wait for an army next to Isengard to spawn, fight it on the map, kill all people.
Its similar what I did to take Ost in Edhil this turn, sent one unit of swords to siege, beat army out on the field but didn't kill em all, they retreated next to the town, lift siege, killed everyone on map, settlement is empty.

That method does work, but I got tired of waiting so I just besieged it and killed the garrison script.
I had 10 general's bodyguard units in the army...
Don't they get like a bajillion pike units? Mordor garrison scripts spawn trolls >.>
As I found whilst doing my Gondor campaign, enough cavalry just dominates any sort of Mordor army. I often had at least 8 units in a full stack of cavalry.
Archers can perform a similar purpose for Eriador/Elves.
But cavalry on those unique settlement assaults doesn't sound so hot. If I can bait them out in the open - sure. Elven archers are just OP in general.

Isengard is a massive open field inside the walls, so I could easily maneuver my cavalry. And it only actually spawned one unit of pikes, most of it was just sword and board infantry.
More orcs and haradrim men have been defeated. The orcs were butchered, but the men of Haard have been released in exchange for a ransom.

It's really slow to develop due to the huge size of the map tbh. it will take the elves roughly as many turns to get to Gondor as it will take Gondor to severely cripple one of the enemies.

I agree, the size of the map in this mod, while glorious for single player and immersion, is really an obstacle for multiplayer because it simply slows things down so much.
