I was playing a Custom Battle where I was using all Turkish Hybrid Infantry and 3 Siege Cannons. Near the end, I knew I would lose, but the army routed and reformed itself about 5 times, which inflicted heavy damage upon the enemy army, reducing them to about 2 halved units of infantry, 2 halved Pav Arbs, and a unit of 6 Gothic Knights.

At the very end, my 3 Siege Cannon crews(one was the General's unit) killed 3 Gothic Knights, which made them rout away.

Then I saw under their Morale Condition "Dismayed by Destruction of Army". I had never seen that before. I bet that you have, but this got me thinking.

During the Demo, I remember the condition of "Encouraged by the General". I have not seen it at all in the final version of the game. Have you?

I see "Encouraged by the General" all the time, but I've never seen "Dismayed by Destruction of Army". I guess its kind of like "Worried by number of casualties" but worse ..

Seen both messages yet

I belive you get "Dismayed by Destruction of Army" when more than 50% of your army is destroyed or routes. Had it when the last standing unit was my Hobilar General ... he was quite Dismayed by the Destruction of his Army ... which was a quite large one ... the dismay ended when the Golden Horde finaly closed up on him http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .

It's an oldy. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

When you start with apparently bigger army then your opponents and they manage to shorten your army or slaughter
your guys fast then the remaining forces of yours have this *dismayed thing* even if you still have reinforcements coming. One detail I can't remeber is if my general died but I am almost sure he did.
That was a lot of casualties in desert against AUM my first encounter with them I didn't have many good troops and the few ones were exhausted in 2 minuts of battle hehe I learned a lot of AUM supermen. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

It was my experience that I destroyed a whole unit of my opponents (archers, i think?) and the rest of their army had 'dismayed by destruction of army' or something like that. So perhaps its when an entire unit gets destroyed? Just a thought...

Doing something right? You mean: because I never lose more than half my army? That's because after they take 5% losses they run away like shrieking mincers ..

if you completely slaughter an entire unit and leave no survivors whilst losing almost no one this can have an effect on enemy morale. its actually great to exploit.

Never seen the 'dismayed', no. I often see the 'encouraged' message, and the 'worried by casualties'. Sometimes also 'feeling safe on the hill' or 'impetuous as the enemy are routing' http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Then again, I usually don`t dare stick along to watch my army get ground up completely. Or if I do I have better things to do than watch the text messages over my routing units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

"Dismayed by destruction of army" is related to the amount of losses of the whole army. In one battle I killed and captured 1400 of 1700 men of the enemy. At that point it showed "dismayed... " in the replay, so it`s about 80% losses.
BTW, did you know that their are different routing signals? I have noticed that if a units routs completely (without chance to rally) it gives a longer signal.

Hey All

I have seen the "dismayed by destruction of army" status before.

Here is a replay of a battle in which you will see this morale status http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

Failed Loyalist Revolt (http://webplaza.pt.lu/shahid/scotland.mrp)

Right towards the end of the battle you will see my cav charging down the enemy. Watch the remaining enemy units closely, Specially the very last unit, you'll see my cav cutting it off. That one gets "dismayed by..."

In this battle 90% of the enemy is captured or killed. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Enjoy the replay http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
