Swooooooooooooooosh
Sitting under the blistering desert sun a handsome young Turcoman soldier sat, writing a letter among his friends, waiting for his captors to bring some water and food.
"To my dearest wife, Zara.
Right now I'm sitting here in Egypt, we fought a battle against the Egyptians today and we lost, so I have become a prisoner. I know the Sultan is a most merciful man, so I will be home soon my love.
As you know we have long been at war with the Egyptians, taken all their possesions down to Egypt, having confined them in their homeland. We have been defeating them with great success for 30 years now. It looked to be another easy victory for us.
It was Prince Osman the Mighty Warrior that came up with the idea. He wanted us, his most trusty warriors, the Turcomans, to lead an advanced attack against the Egyptian forces. We were to be supported by a great number of merc disbelievers from western Europe and our own capable Beduin Warriors.
As my commander, the Honourable Amir Ma'amun, told us it seemed a good idea. We the Turcomans were supposed to pelt the infantry of the Egyptians from afar and lure them out so the disbelievers and Armenians could chrush them.
It started very well, we advanced in nine squadrons towards the Egyptians, but to our surprise they had hidden a few regiments of Desert Archers and we had a long duel with them. By Allah's grace we managed to kill them faster than they killed us, but we had suffered quite a few losses. My squadron commander was hit by three arrows and I took over and I saw my friends fall all around me.
I saw the gnerals pennants fly for disengaging ranged combat with the Desert Archers and engage the infantry and cavalry.
We advanced to get in range while the remaining Desert Archers concentrated on the squadrons to my left. Poor guys, they were devastated. May they sit by the Prophet himself for their Valour.
The Egyptian Sultan was not a man of indesiveness and as soon as we began our attack on his men he called for an advance of his cavalry. I can still hear the buglecall ring in my ears, for after that our forces more or less fell apart. The squadrons to the left bore the brunt again and they didn't manage to get out of the way of the Ghulams, their way to heaven was fast. Meanwhile we were set upon by hordes of Nubians with spears. They were so black as no man I have ever seen before, they are now our guardians and I hear they come from the lands south of Egypt. I thought the world ended here.
We pulled back in face of the Nubians and the disbelievers, some troops called Feudal Sergeants or something, with spears moved to intecept. I must say that they fought well, all three regiments, but the foul Egyptian Sultan was not shaken by this and attacked them himself and routed them quite fast.
Our own commander had more or less lost all overview of the battle and charged his camels in. We on the other hand steadily pulled back while firing at the enemy infantry, desperately trying to turn the tide. But when our Armenian contingency broke off and fled the whole center collapsed and many were captured, even our foolish commander.
I pulled my unit together and marched them to where other units were rallying. We then tried another advance, but our mercs broke almost at once, clearly they could not face soldiers of Allah.
We and the other four depleted Turcoman squadrons managed to deplete the Sultan's Ghulams and his son's squadron and they pulled back. We followed, feeling revitalized, but it soon became apparent we were being lured in to a trap. Before I could order a retreat two squadrons of those light Saharan Cavalry were on us. It was every man for himself and as I turned my horse to flee the horse to my right fell and took mine with it. Before I could remount my beautiful Arab I was surrounded by Nubian soldiers. I had to surrender.
For the last three nights the Egyptians have been celebrating their victory and we have been taunted byt them all the time.
I am ashamed of my actions, but I will prove a good investment when I return.
Oh, I can see the Sultan coming towards us with his guards, I have to finish now.
My dearest Zara I will write again on the way home.
With love from your devoted husband."
The Sultan stepped up on a rock, overlooking the prisoners. Around them the guards and Nubians closed in. The Sultan raised his arm and the soldiers drew their swords, when he dropped it they began to kill every prisoner they could get their hands on.
Back in Sinai Prince Osman looked pleased when he heard about the battle.
"The Egyptians suffered heavy losses. Good, and I didn't even send any general that had commanded before. Those that have returned are now experienced soldiers and they will get the chance to avenge their friends soon. Let the Egyptians keep the prisoners, there are too many mercs among them and I don't want them back."

To His Majesty King Henry III England from Prince Edward, Prince of Wales
Dearest Father,
The ships with the reinforcements arrived today, something that I am well pleased about. We have been holding the Citadel here in Aquitaine with a vastly depleted garrison and the reinforcements will certainly make the treacherous Spanish think twice before trying to add Aquitaine to their lands.
I am also pleased that you have finally decided to take the initiative to the Spaniards. However, I think it would be more prudent to assemble a large invasion force, than rely on myself and my 19 trusty bodyguards. While we shall fight with all the valour we can muster, I'm worried that my little secret may not be so secret anymore and has started to affect the morale of my fellow knights.
But do not worry. We will do all in our power to force the Spaniards out of Navarre for good. I do, however, have doubts about our safe return and wanted to write one last time.
Farewell father
Eddie.

Follower of a poor master
Your pathetic army has met it's fate at the hands of the true believers...send not your children and old men to the slaughter, but come in person with an army worthy of the name.
Your pathetic troops routed and attempted to flee the feild like woman, before we had closed with them, and so they were not worthy of a warriors death...instead I return their testicles to you, rest assured that their life of servitude will be ample repayment for the ransom that I will not be asking for.
Kindest Regards

p.s your son says hello, have a nice day
From King Giovanni IV, King of the Unified Nation of Italia and Defender of the Catholic Faith to King Louis VI, King of France, Scourge of the Infidel, Protector of Peace and Ruler of the Celts.
Dear Lou,
Words cannot express how pleased I am to see the reappearance of your faction so many years after your dear father (God rest him) was killed by the Almohads. Western Europe has been very boring since you guys have been away - the Germans are sulking, the Danes have been massacred and our enemies the Almohads now rule all of your former territory plus Spain, most of Scandinavia and England (until your resplendent return of course).
I personally have been attempting to stick it to the infidel in the name of the Lord, and I have reacquired Ile de France, Toulouse and Acquitaine. I would love to let you have them back with no strings attached, just to strengthen Catholicism in Europe, but international law clearly states: that is not possible. Sorry, my hands are tied. Best I can do is engineer a couple of rebellions which will probably wreck all your father's good works and fine architecture - whatever the Elbow Heads didn't already mess up for you. Versailles was in a terrible state Anyway, be seeing you around.
Yours regally,
Joe.
PS: If you get besieged by the Almond Hats, just let me know and I'll come bail you out.
PPS: Why did you pick Scotland, Northumbria and Mercia to reappear in? Bloody cold this time of year up there. You'll get no trouble from me over keeping those provinces, although I want to keep hold of Ireland if you don't mind.
PPPS: Come on, you've got five daughters. I just want one of them for my boy Enrico. He's a good lad really even if he does drink too much. Is that so much to ask?
From King Louis VI, King of France, Scourge of the Infidel, Protector of Peace and Ruler of the Celts to King Giovanni IV, King of the Unified Nation of Italia and Defender of the Catholic Faith.
Joe,
For in the name of my father I shall call you Joe. Let me first congratulate you for your longevity. Other monarchs have passed away while you have gained in strength. Be it not for your staunch resistance, Europe would be Muslim. As you kindly remarked, our Royal court was moved to Edinburgh, where everything French was always loved. The rest of England should be blue soon, for the pleasure of its inhabitants, and the gain of gastronomy in general. We are not in a position to challenge the dastard almohads yet, hence we would appreciate if your famed network of spied could cause turmoil in Brittany, Normandy, and shall I ask, Flanders (to link all provinces). My general Lord Bouillon will then move in swiftly.
As for my daughters, they are of proud nature, like their mother, who in her days ripped my left testicle with her teeth, and choose their husbands themselves. I’m sure, however, that my beautiful Marie, who is rapidly reaching her sell by date, wouldn’t mind.
With our combined might, we shall vanquish or perish.
Yours
PS : make sure to defend your provinces on our common border, even though we are firmly allied, I am now not to resist the opportunity to invade lowly defended provinces.

From Lord Alexander of Prussia, Grand Marshal of the Empire, Patriarch of the Teutonian Knight Order, to Lord Bernhard of Aragon, Grand Admiral of the Fleet.
My beloved brother in Arms,
remembering our past Victories brings joy to my heart. The liberation of Europe and the removal of those wicked drunkards, that once called themselves Kings was a deed, history will always remember as a blessing of God himself.
Like the lord himself, that took the chaos and created the Universe from it, our beloved Emperor took the chaos that Europe was in and replaced it with order and obediance.
For endless years I had advised our divine Emperor to disband the Africa Corps since I never belived in the strength of those barbarian tribesmen. The recent fall of the Corps to the wicked hordes of the Egyptians and the fall of Marocco proved me right.
Here in the east our plans are unfolding. The rampage of the Mongolian Hordes left Asia Minor in a state of turmoil. Their forces have finaly been beaten by the remnants of the once so glorious Byzantine Empire, leaving the Byzantine Armies in ruins. Can we wait any longer for our divine Plan ? Goverments falling, their Military beeing crushed and all of their kind begging on that same one day ... begging for that World that they have lost ... to the Holy Roman Empire of German Nations.
Our campaign in the east started 4 years ago. The Armies of my beloved Teutonian Order pushed the Byzantines off the Balkans and the first part of our conquest was achieved when Lord Richard of Scotland liberated Constantinople. Since that day the remaining three Armies of my Teutonian Knights have seized most of Russia. The rebels fought well and with great honour, but couldn´t withstand the charge of our mighty Horses or the swords of our invincible Order Footknights. The whole offensive came to a sudden halt however as the loyalty of the population of the newly counquered Provinces was not to be trusted. Upon my request the Emperor has sent forth vast amounts of newly recruited Soldiers of the Empire to serve as a Garrison. They arrived two weeks ago and since then the combined armies of the Teutonian Order are pushing to the south. After the fall of Georgia and of Trebizond one year later the forth Army under Lord Richard of Scotland has again joined our Forces and now we are stand close before our great Goal of liberating the turkish Penisula. to my suprise the Turks managed to mobilse an Army from their eastern Provinces and took them to field to drive us from Armenia, but the wicked forces of their Jannisary shall fall before the rightous anger of three full Armies of my beloved Teutonian Order that are already laying in wait for them.
I know you are trying to recreate the Africa Corps that was so beloved by our divine Emperor, but you must not rely on those poorly trained Warriors. They may make a good garrison but they are of no use among the frontline. I ask of you to send forth your Army of Gothic Knights, along with those heavily armoured German elite soldiers to drive the wicked Egytians from Marocco and back trough the deserts of north Africa. I know the heat is a great hassle to you and your brave men, and that their armour does exhaust them fast, but don´t hesitate The egytian Forces are mostly light armoured and will never stand a chance against warriors dressed in Spanish Steel. Make them pay for their heretic attack upon our supremacy and drive them back all the way until you conquer their homelands. We shall meet in Sinai and celebrate our allout Victory and the rise of an new Roman Empire that will last more than a thousand years this time.
Faithfull regards
Alexander, the Dragon of Prussia, Patriarch of the Teutonian Knights Order.
Note: The crusaders_unit_build was modified along with several other files to create those 4 full stacks of Teutonian Knights, Teutonian Sergants, Order Foot, Order Footknights (hospitaller footknights ... renamed) and Arbalesters

Anno Domini 1282, Venice
From Doge Vitale V, Ruler of the Italians, to the Holy Father Pope Nicolaus V
Your Holyness,
I ever was and will remain your humble servant. My family has been honoured to be among your closest friends and first of in the line to follow the rule of the Papacy. Although my many duties towards the people I’m dedicated to, forbid me to follow the ceremonies of the faith and to visit the Mass as often as I should, no one can doubt the strength with which I praise the Lord as it is shown in my deeds every day. Could we have achieved what we have, could Italy prosper as it does, could our armies been victorious again and again without the help and the goodwill of God towards our rule? Of course not. I have always been ready to do all that I could for the Catholic Faith, as my father did and his father before him. Our dynasty has followed the Papacy’s call against the heathens. We have defended the catholics in Spain and missioned Africa. We have send God sanctioned crusades to the Holy Land. We have purged the Germans and the Hungarians as they came on the wrong path. We have helped to end this for all catholics horrible time when the Greek heretics held the Papal States and made a blasphemous mockery out of the Papacy. Of all catholic nations, my father was the only one who dared to ally with you against the might of Constantinopel. We have spread the true faith from the barbaric wilderness of Novgorod to the desolate sands of Egypt.
With all this it must seem even more shameful to you that we – or I in particular – have now fallen from your grace so terribly. You must now how unhappy I am with this situation as it will be a hard time for all Italy without your guidance. I would not dare to defend the way I disappointed you, as God alone and you as his earthly steward can judge a mere sinner like I am, but it has to be considered that it were in fact the French who started this bloody and senseless war as they attacked us, their catholic brothers, at our northern territory, where we were without power and delivered to their decree. Our actions in Sweden, that followed, were only to defend ourselves against a further onslaught. You are, however, right to suspect that our counterstrike in Switzerland had rather strategical and technological reasons, but it was actually done without spilling any catholic blood. I would never criticise your orders, but I was shocked to realize that you condemned me without even warn me that what I was doing was against God’s wishes. How could I have judged good from right without your help?
However, since what is done is done, I can only pray for my soul and God’s forgiveness for what I have done and will further do. So unfortunately I have to inform you, your actions will not change the course of events as I have to do what is best for Italy and I will not endanger the prosperity and glory my ancestors have achieved to please your politics. Heavenly right is undoubtful yours, but on earth the wealthes to my disposal and the brave Italian armies will prevail over land and sea.
So know that it will be the treacherous French who will have to pay the prize for their deeds and not you or anyone else can stand in the way of Italy’s glory.
P.S. You’re dead meat

'The story of a French Knight Templar whom was taken prisoner by my regiment during the disasterous French invasion of Wessex in 1291'
We set sail from Flanders with 900 men, mostly serfs from my kings feilds pressed into service against that heretic King John of England. The pope had sent his blessing for the expedition against the excommunicated dog and I was willing to do his bidding.
We landed upon the beaches of Dover with our spirits high for we had God on our side and the weather with us as it was raining and that would dampen the terrifying British longbows. We were even more glad that our scouts reported a British force of no more than 300 was awaiting us on Salisbury plain.
Our forces met a few days after with the British in a defensive position upon a hill. Thier forces must have included no more than 3 regiments of Long Bow along side a pair of spear regiments and some Royal Knights. The battle should have been a walk over.
However as we marched up the hill the English arrows fell like rain amoung our troops and several of our regiments of Peasents broke and fled i could not believe it, but I spured my horse on and baedthat my Knights follow as I led my regiment around the flank of the hill. Then disaster struch, that arrows began falling amoungst my men and half of the regiment was decimated before I knew what was happening. Then came their Knights chargeing down the hill at us. We held our ground but were either massacered or taken. At the loss of their General our army began to flee the feild persued by the same Longbows that had shot at us before. I hear that only 100 of my men made it back to the boats and then onto Flanders, We could not have killed more than 20 of the English.
Perhaps as the preist here tells me, God was not favouring us.
From the journal of the Warrior Preist,Brother Derfel, commander of the Kings forces in Wessex
