Last night i decided to play my first campaign with the patch installed, I chose my fav faction bzyantine, All started well i had kept a foothold in the italian peninsula, as the game wore on i seen real changes (or was it coincidence? I had an alliance with the egyptians and the turkish were almost wiped out, then in 1 turn the egyptians attacked by sea to 4 of my provinces as well as a land attack (A MASS INVASION&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif It was great fun having to budget? my troops to fight off and take back certain provinces, eventually i fought well and got my lands back, THEN mongol invasion (and i do mean invasion) about 20 stacks of mongols invading my eastern lands, RETREAT (i lost my steppe cav facilities http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif Thankfully the mongols have been attacking my central lands in groups of around 1500 so they are containable for the moment http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif but my first impressions are good

A very happy peep http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Whose abilities in the game are now being severely tested http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I noted the post patch 'mass invasions' yesterday too, with the French making a simultaneous attack on 4 provinces. Fantastic...

it did, quite significantly, and for the better

Yes looks like it did i first thought it was coincidence but the mongol hordes are definately much bigger, and the almohads had a hard time against spain and have started to expand eastwards warring with the egyptians. I also noticed next in line for the throne shows in red (handy).

One thing that still annoys me tho is that govenors or heirs who arent the general of the army arent any different from normal troops on the battle field, so its difficult to keep them safe on the battlefield: example i have 1 katophrac gen, 1 katophrac heir and 1 katophrac govenor and 1 katophrac normal troop when battle begins i can only tell who is the gen and if i have to use another katophrac unit i would use the normal troop but i cant tell which 1 it is, Perhaps they could have changed the battle flags for royalty or govenorship http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

I'm pretty sure the patch makes significant enhancements to the AI, especially tactical. It's well worth using. Cav are so much more fun. ride, my pretties, ride

I love the way cav break off from combat now, Id like that in multiplayer http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hehe swooshers :)

when you get tired of the normal campaign, there are some mods out there that can make things even more interesting; no land bridges, 20 playable factions, longer campaign time, more ai trade routes, lots of interesting stuff. i'm currently playing as the sicilians in a mod i'm making. 19 playable factions and the egyptians and burgundians keep sinking my ships. lots of fun ;)

Heya krae ive become a bit of a moddy myself http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif Ive played as a scottish faction that can build mongol units and highland clansmen Just for fun http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif You could say ........... ok ive started modding......... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
Yep the games alot more fun now the modding is easy, But i find the campaign mods abit boring ( http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) sorry peeps no offence http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I think if they had alot of background info (pages and pages) it would make them alot more interesting to play http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . I like to be able to visualise the time they are fought in and know what was going on at that time, like the origonal campaigns http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I find the byzantine very enjoyable because of the history behind the empire (i hate their poor unit selection) 105 for cav you got to be kidding http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Anyways im sure any mods you come up with will be of a high quality like your maps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Byz unit selection poor? With the best (Hands down) infantry available in the game, the heaviest armored heavy cavalry (Ok, so they're more trouble than they're worth but...), capable second string heavy cav, excellent foot archers, horse archers that double as handy light cavalry, etc?

The only thing they lack is good spear, but the Varangians are so strong they make up for it. In fact, the Varangians make up for a lot... I ran one on one unit tests in custom battle and Varangians beat every other unit in the game one on one.

Yeah, I've had Varangians just manhandle Mongol heavy cav time and time again . . . one of my favorite units. I'd love to have them and SAP in the same army

I also experience some mass invasion. I had the Egypt faction and I was controlling all the Africa. The Italian attacked all the fleet in the same turn (broke my trade road/I can't send unit by sea). The turn after, they attack 5 of my province by sea.

This is what I call a good AI. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

My campaign went sour last night i swear i fought the mongols 8 times the games were so long because the mongols attacked with 5000 men i swear every game i put my byz infantry in woods in a square turned it upto full speed left it for 35-60 mins and when i came back id won http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif still a waste of time, mind u the mongols are now extinct and im expanding south http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Actually i dont think the current game system is well designed for these big battles 1v1 i mean you have a maximum unit allowance of 16, but battles can be 4v4?? i think its time to include ai generals that fight alongside the player using the players units, I mean why not? whats to stop it, and it would be a v nice feature for the exp pack Ok im going to make a poll http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Can I play my campaigns from the pre-patched game when I install the patch?

nope

You can play pre-patch games.. it just messes it up a bit. I did it with my HRE game and I lost the ability to make all the later units that I was filling my armies with - fortunately the game was already won.

Didn't notice any other problems.
