I have played the muslims and I have realised they don't have any good troops.(Except the turks) The Almohads only have Almohad urban militia.Does anybody feel the same as me about the muslims?

I'f not tell me what troops are any good? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well youve found the best troop imo, the urban militia. Although the camels can be very potent against cavalry, in the right conditions. I also liked the Ghazi infantry, though they are kinda unpredictable. Played the Almohads my first campaign and took 60% by 1201, though didnt know much and had lots of rebellions and no cash flow.

They're not as heavy as the Christian knights and heavy infantry. On the other hand, they're much cheaper and tend to be faster.

The key for Muslims is fire and movement. Don't stand there and wait for the knights to charge --- move On the attack use swarms of horse archers and Turcomans to thin out Western positions and get them off balance. On the defense, make them come to you and get tired in a nice high position of your choosing. And always flank, flank, flank.

I like playing Muslim armies. You can't just go smashing into people --- you have to think and really try and use mobility to your advantage.

The problem with Almohads, of course, is that they don't have Saracen infantry and have zero medium/heavy cavalry other than Ghulam bodyguards. They're the most problematic, because they're not all that mobile and can't get anything heavier than bows, either. Almohad armies unfortunately, have to emphasize mass numbers over mobility.

The most annoying thing about islamic factions IMO is the abundance of desert-oriented units, i.e., camels, desert archers, saharan cavalry, and the relativly few number of true desert provences. Not only is western heavy cavalry more effective, it's more effective on more of the map.

That said, it's a fun change of pace to play a Muslim faction after you've been Catholic for a while.

I prefer playing muslims factions, because muslims troops have great morale. My Nubians and saracens will keep on fighting long after the western troops have fled.
I have defeted armies much heavier, and much more numerus, simply because after a while they just run, even the reinforcments, who don't even can deploy before they are chased off the map.

Saracen has high morale?

I thought Saracen has the same morale as Chiv. Sgt. and Byz.Inf.: 0.

On MP or SP alike, I had to constantly bring my general along with the Saracen, or accompany saracen with more elite troops, or the "wavering" starts flashing as soon as the saracen found themselves alone (these guys tend to run when tired).

Speaking of morale, how does one determine the morale level of a particular unit? Am I missing something obvious here?

While I'm typing, let me also ask if there is any way to see the # of battles won/lost by a general? You could see this in Shogun, and I could tell how many battles he needed to win before he got his next star.

Number of battles won doesn't necessarily translate to stars; it has more to do with the numbers involved in the battle. Winning a matchup of 4000 to 200, your generally would get no stars. Beat up a few thousand peasants with only 400-500 though, and he'll get a star or two.

As for morale, each valour adds +2 to the base; in a battle, if you hit F1, you can check your unit's morale.

Muslims are good overalljust keep flanking and you'll be fine.also when attempting to invade always make sure you outnumber the enemyuse the disciplined troops or elite troops to hold the enemy while the others flank.also always keep fanatics in your army(futuwas, ghazi or nizari)they are superb archers and flankers(use them to run down broken enemies too)if you are egyptian feild alot of nizaris they are good archers and anti-spear infantry.

RunAway generals ranks don't give Morale... They give bonus to attack and defense, but not Morale. It only shows up as Valours because the engine counts the attack and defensevalues and says "oh another Valour".
But certain V&Vs add Morale, just check the F1.
