Everytime I play the campaign I'll take 2/3 of the map in a 100 years and then the game changes from foriegn conquest to trying to put down all the rebelions happening. Almost every turn an area (ex England) will go into rebelion. I have several spies, priests, and assainas in each of my provinces along with strong governers, all farming upgrades, borderforts, and 1000 men garrisons. But still I'll have nasty revolts of mostly proffesional soilders that the province can't build anyway. In combination with the revolts all the AI declares war on me (even if I never been agressive towards them)and will try sucide attacks along my borders. I guess this is done to simulate running a massive empire under fedualism but it gets ridiculous when each new turn takes you 20 minutes because you have to fight so many battles. Now I generally quit playing a campaign after I take most of the map just because it becomes to much of a hassel. It sucks not being able to finish a campaign that you've been working on for 20 hours.

I had that problem too the solution is too keep going make sure all taxes are low and build churches everywhere, check ur gens for loyalty and try not to conquer to mutch too quikly otherwise u will spread ur forces too thinly. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well i did managed to conquer europe without any rebellions, you just have to avoid conquering the portugese, tunisians and english, they revolt alot(epecially those portugese peasants http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif )

Yes, we all know about the churches etc, the point is that people still revolt a lot in some games. And yes, it gets irritating and too long to play the campaign until the finish. Only once I tried to chieve total domination, and let me tell you: I had to quit playing MTW for a while after that...

Seriously, there is something wrong with the AI towards the end of the game, like all the Kings are going psycho http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif or something...

As far as taxes, my theory is that people remember the high tax rates even if you change it the next turn and the loyalty meter says that there will not be any revolts. I am testing this idea right now, and so far I had not increased taxes in distant territories more than normal: so far no revolts, and I am already past the minor victory, with 4 AI nations left...

I think for the English in the late period there is an historical event that triggers heretical cults in most English provinces. So you have to keep an eye on that by adding churches and the like.

The farther away your provinces are from your King, the more likely they will be to revolt. Islands are especially vulnerable because if they are cut off from your King due to a shipping blockade they will rebel for sure. If you expand your empire too far, all the other factions do gang up on you. And they will attack you even if they have only one little dinky army in one little dinky province, the last great act of defiance. Very frustrating. I prefer playing the glorious acheivements game instead.

I've never really had trouble with revolts, even with large empires. Your probably expanding too fast- and not giving new provences time to grow loyal. Lots of stuff affects the loyalty of a provence- religion, garrison size, taxation rate, whether or not there is a governer. Try slowing down and paying attention to all these things.

How do you beat off a naval blockcade? The computer will use 1 ship at a time to blockcade your province, then when you go to attack that ship they cycle in a new ship and move the old ship into another part of the sea to blockcade another province. The attack fleet you sent to get the orginal ship won't follow it and now they have to deal with the new ship in the area.

Mass mostly. Or maybe its volume come to think of it.

Huge numbers of ships to chase, surround and extinguish the enemy Be single-minded cruel and efficient.

i never had probs with rebels. i always hae as high tax as possible, onl 1 unit garrison in provinces that arnt boarders to other factions, exept in those high risk territorys like portugal, then i have 3-5 units. if loyalty go under 100 i lower the tax. doesnt matter where i have my king i dont get those massriots.

the only times i had rebellions is when it was obviuos. like an island got cut of, if i leave to little garrison in territorys that i recently conquerd, etc etc.

Having the crazy mass revolts from time to time as well now. I keep loyalty to 200%, the taxes stay kinda low, since i dont need the money, and keep at least 300+ troops in provinces. Though i have my king in Aquitaine now, which i may try differently tonight. Seems the old Turk and Egyptian territories always revolt when i move him to far. Also seems to be when the Turks or Egyptians reappear. Really annoying to have to move so many troops back to stop the rebellions when they're at 200%. Checked the rebellion right before i ended turn, they rebelled and everything was red. Though when i check each province then check rebellion chance again they turned back green. Very odd this. Guess I'll station my king back in Constantinople so he can spawn more children. Hes not that great anyway heh.

I got troubble now.

I got attacked in 20 territories, 8 of them i didnt have the men to defend. 2 i lost and 10 i won. The rebels were around 40000 men altogheter i killed 25000 of them and about 3-4000 of mine got killed.

next turn 10 more territorys revolt with around 20000 more men, not its almost the same number of rebels and i have
3-4000 men less to defend 10 more territorys plus i must try to retake my other 10 lost territorys.

The only stupid thing is; all of the territorys had over 100% loyalty and more then 20 of the revolting territorys the loyalty was over 150%, there were even 200% loyalty in some of the provinces
