My 9* general duke of Constantinople far from the rest of my English kingdom (result of a crusade vs. Turks) was attacked by neighboring Egypt. Next turn, since I own the seas, I counterattack and sack several coastal states including Trebisond. Not good for my 9* general and ~1800 troops I put there (all upgraded w/ at least valor & defense bonuses, many w/ attack bonusues also). Glad I brought 3 Welsh archers, 5 arbelests, and the rest halbreds aside from the royal knights of my general's unit.
Not good because next turn Egypt counter-counter attacks with 10,000+ assorted Early/High troops into Trebisond alone. Played the game at night, took smoke breaks w/ game on pause, etc. Played the Treb. battle almost entirely on +100% speed.
After long time, looked finally at objectives and noticed then it was slated for 256 minutes until the "day" was over. I guess that's because of the number of total troops? Anyway, that's ~5 hours so even at full acceleration it was ~2.5 hours. And my troops were simply too few and too armored to risk stringing them out chasing the enemy across the battlefield. So, the enemy just kept routing--in the face of my immobile halbred wall and concentrated missle fire--then sending another 1000+. 10 times. The radar had me in the lower right. From the top left of the radar it seemed a contstant diagonal steam flowing in two directions in the golden color of Egypt as their men came onto in attack then off in retreat from the battlefield. When I won, I had slaughtered the Egyptian King with longbow fire, killed over 4000 Egyptians and lost less than 150 men. That's my greatest battle ever. Also the most tiring. Now, what to do about the 6000 rebels that ran to Nicea... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
