View Full Version : routing troops still keep pole arms
I feel it is funny that the routing troops still carry long pole arms when they rout. Isn't it that when you run for your life, you would throw away the cumbersome 12 foot long poles to run faster?
Just joking guys... No need to change the game's algorithm.

They do drop their polearms. What you're seeing is them raising the sticks to try and raise their white flags
I dunno, I think even if I was running for my life, I'd keep a tight grip on my only weapon. Then again, I'm a little crazy.

Well i wouldnt have a weapon that i couldnt run like the wind with in the first place and in modern army's if u lose ur weapon dont bother cumming back to base untill u find it.

Well, it seems the punishment for cowardice and losing your equipment has become less after Roman times...
A legion that shamed itself by running away and leaving their weapons behind could be sentenced to decimation. That is, divided into ten-man groups. Then one man in every group gets selected by lot and his nine mates have to kill him with clubs http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
last night i watched as a unit of enemy Chiv MAA routed,
my allies gen was chasing another unit, and that unit reached the red zone, the gen stood waiting for orders with their backs to the field,
the Chiv MAA routed through the generals unit and killed all but 2, including the general...
(the other funny thing i saw is a routed unit "worried by enemy numbers" AND "happy that flanks are protected", the flanks were "protected" by other routing units...naturally they would not rally...)

There is a term the ancient greeks had , 'ripsaspis'. it means 'shield thrower' and it meant a coward . in ancient greece dropping your weapons to run was the worst thing you could do in a war , sometimes punishable by death. It is realistic in medieval times though that some types of troops would throw away their weapons to run . i belive it should be implemented in the game , some units should throw weapons some should not ( for example disciplined units of high morale units would retreat with the weapons , peasants and militia should throw them)
Yeah well... peasants already fight like they dont have weapons- so I dont think it would make much difference. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

well it wouldnt make a difference on peasants but it would make a difference in other strong but undisiplined units , it would make a nice difference to know that if your 'super unit' routes , even if its rallied it will be a shadow of its former self. This would give the game a nice twist

in shoggie, the routed unit had a minus 2(i think it was minus 2) to attack after it had rallied, tho this was just against the unit that caused them to rout. maybe something like that could go in affect. some of the unit drops their weapons, some do not.
