View Full Version : Inquisitor bug?

I experienced something totally new last night. Following the advice of several posters (?) on these boards I decided to raise the ol' King's piety by inquisifying him with a 0 valor inquisitor. He did not have secret heretic or secret atheist, but after the inquisification he developed the heretic trait. Thinking that perhaps he had unfortunately acquired secret heretic in the 'thinking' process between turns as all generals do, I discarded it as bad luck. But after using the same shady trick on one of his heirs and one of my best generals, the heir got atheist and the general got heretic. Obviously neither of them had suffered from these problems before. What happened? I know have the least pious folks on the planet ruling, or about to rule, my nation

By they way, there was a 0% chance of success and each person was proven innocent of heresy.
When generals pass through an Inquisition, they tend to become very annoyed with the Inquisitors ie the Catholics. This gets them to develop a hatred for the religion because they interfered with their private lives.
Have you ever heard of Witch Hunts?
If you turn lose the Inquisitors on even the most religious catholics, they tend to admit their heresy under torture.
History is littered with such cruelty and injustice:
1. Jean d'Arc was tried by a Church for heresy. Her crime was to claim having conversations with angels. Who could be less religious than her?
2. Many Knights Templar in their decline period were tortured and admitted that they commit sodomy and various other crimes. These knights are those who defended the crusades, no less.
When religion is used as a political means, the darkess traits of humanity leaps out.
So, I don't think this is a bug. This is done intentionally by the devs and for good reason.

Khaine you are evil for attempting to start a flame, ladyann, do not respond please...... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
What I've noticed is that when you stage an unsuccessful Inquisition, yes you tend to get the Athiest or Heretic vice. Yet curiously, the target's Piety does not decrease. In fact, Piety goes up a bit in some cases.
Of course, Piety is the only stat that affects Inquisitions, so the practical effect that the target becomes safer. AND, the fact that the target has just been tagged with the Athiest or Heretic vice already, means that he wont aquire them in the future (obviously...you cannot get a Vice twice).
So...the net effect is GREAT for the target who beats the Inquisition. His Piety is up (which is all that matters), AND he has been effectively immunized against any future random Piety drops due to Athiest/Heretic.
My guess is that this is not a bug, but in a roundabout way exactly what the designer intended.
Nah Khaine is cool. Allow me one more reply http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

i think haveing priests in the the territory with the inguisitor eliviates inquisition.
You just have to keep throwing assassins at him until one of them gets lucky. I once had to expend 10 assassins to get one measly 5 star inquisitor out of my hair. If only you could send your inquisitors to try other people's inquisitors for heresy. My 5 star Grand Inquisitors would have had him for lunch.

While i know this is a game, there are certain things i bind myself by. for example, not assassinating princesses. but inquisitors i kill on sight.
the very thought is chilling. to sic an inquisitor on yr population to increase their zeal, on one of yr own generals to remove him cos of his in(or over)competence, on an enemy. the inquisition i view as a very dark period in the history of those who worship God.
Thus, no inquisitor lives long, as long as i have anything to say abt it. end of rant.

i've found inquisitors to be highly useful - they are like re-usable assasins. i've set quite a few loose on rival catholic factions, just let them try any enemy general they come across, and burnt more than one enemy king (heh heh heh!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. but what annoys me is that several times i have discovered an atheist enemy king or general, sent an inquisitor after them (only grand inquisitors can try kings i think?) and if the inquisition fails, the target often then gains the 'devout' v&v... stoopid contradictory v&v... i can buy some of the combinations, but how can you have a devout atheist who, because their piety is increased, is more resistant to inquisition? bah
