View Full Version : Civil wars
just from reading the good vs bad king thread, I realise that in about 15 campaigns (almost all on GA, expert, 12 pre patch, 3 post) I had only ONE civil war (and a very minor one at that).
I have seen many Ai factions get civil wars, but they rarely happen to me. Is it luck or do you experience the same?
Only on my second campaign but havent had a civil war yet. Though i did cause the HRE to have one in my first campaign as the Almohads. Musta caused to many loses to the king and the country split. Really saved my butt because i was having major problems with them up untill then.

I haven't had a civil war or rebellion yet, but I must admit to stirring the pot http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif for my competitors in their homelands.

Not often but it does happen.
My last campaign (Turkish) was particularly bad. 3 civil wars almost back-to-back. They were small affairs (just make sure you read what each faction already has) but pretty annoying. I did all the things I usually do when I start out-build mosques, taverns, try to get farmland productive; the only thing that got loyalty rising was going to war.
I make it a point to check the loyalty in all my provinces with small garrisons to make sure they aren't ready to rebel. I also check the loyalty of my generals after a new king rises to the throne. There is too much else to do in the game to have to reconquer a province.

Checking provincial loyalty helps a lot...but they just generally go with whatever general has the troops http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I started raiding Cyprus and that helped raise the loyalty of my generals. I never held onto it...it seemed just going out and winning a few battles was enough to get my generals back in line.
This really confuses me actually http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif Because I did not hold onto the province I didn't get an increase in influence...so what did the battles accomplish (in game terms) that raised the loyalty. Receiving a skilled attacker V&V raise loyalty? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif
I haven't had that many Civil Wars, but they have all been confined to the Turks and HRE... They in particular seems to have disloyal generals. Very destructive when you fight your only two brilliant heirs (can't believe I didn't back them).
Civil war happened to me when I could not find the King of Denmark a wife. I had reached that part of the game where all surviving factions had made themselves my enemies so for decades there were no prospective spouses. After finally getting hitched to a local he was an old man. Consequently his son was too young to take the throne leaving the uncles to Duke it out. The ensuing massive struggle took years to sort out and the loss of buildings and troops was staggering.

Same thing happened with me last night. English, Early, GA, Hard -- King died, and the heir took over dropping several of my generals loyalties to 3 shields. I invaded Norway and Scotland, and there loyalty immediately went up to 5 or 6 shields.
I think they are just happy to see you aren't sitting on your a** getting fat.

hehehe
That must be it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I only ever had one. I was the Spanish I think and this was how I learned the benefit of marrying heirs. My King died and his 60ish yr old heir was unwed He died in a few years and the 'uncles' rebelled, it was a big mess. Troops split almost evenly on each side and my empire was pretty big at the time. It made for an interesting game though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
One of these days I'm going to incite a civil war just for the challenge of rebuilding the empire. I was tempted to try it once in one of my earlier campaigns, but decided to reload and fix it before it happened again.
Has any fought a civil war on purpose? Was it pretty challenging?

well just for the stats : i played quite a lot of campaigns from early ( more than 10) , i got one civil war playing as the english ( i had a worthless king , was way deep in bebt , and lost a coupel of provinces at the same round) . Needless to say i chose the wrong side on the civil war http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
