Of course calling it viking invasion could just be an excuse to add another 500 years to the beginning of the game, where they concentrate on all the cultures around then and not just the vikings. I must say the viking thing although interesting, doesn't seem to work in a MTW sense. The vikings didn't really do that much conquering, more settling in foreign lands and trade. I think it would be fine to have a few viking kingdoms of the time, so long as the expand on the cultures around the entire world map at the time.

In the context of Medieval war, you can't really throw the romans in, that's a whole other game that will no doubt be considered.

It may interest you all to know that this month's edition of PC Gamer (UK) has a DVD on the front with an expansion battle for MTW - Stamford Bridge, covering the Viking (ish) invasion of Britain just prior to 1066. Haven't played it yet but will let you know.

Perhaps a precursor to Viking Invasion, or perhaps all we're going to get

They will have an exclusive on the sequel to MTW.

well in my opinion the next expansion is still not known to us

my guess its not viking invasion

but instead its European invasion of asia, after the crusades were succesful... like the MI exp, it will be a pure fantasy

Viking Invasion might work if they change the map, make it say UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Scandavia. Then you could have

Irish + Scots invasion of Picts, Holy Roman Empire, Various English Kingdoms, Vikings, Normans,etc

all over a time period that starts say 700 AD to 1066 AD.

More provinces in each those countries, more specific units (bagpipers&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif plus some history basis.

Wouldn't be any good with full Euro/Asia/Africa map we have now though. Guess we need to go with the Martian idea.

i tihnk they will more than likely opt for a newer map which covers new areas... if viking, i can see it being a map of northwestern europe, the atlantic and the americas

And it should include Iceland and Greenland too because the Vikings settled there up until the mini Ice Age in the mid-15th century.

I would be surprised if the map changed- and it really wouldnt need to be. Although most everyone seems to think the Vikings only were ever in NW Europe and Scandinavia, its just not true. In fact, Vikings conquered most of Russia and made it to parts of southern Europe, including Constantinople.
