Theres a map for Shogun called Pagoda City (I think) that is quite different from norm, doesnt work as well as it could but it makes a point.

playing on it got me thinking...

Does the idea of MTW street fights/city battles sound any good?

Example: you could have a fortified town, with walls to siege, and then fight your way through narrow winding medieval streets past cathedrals and warehouses to a palace...Either MP or SP historical battles would work with this. Plus you could burn peasants houses down...

So, any opinions? insults? random comments made in the wrong topic?

That's another good idea. Think of the possibilities...

Rooftop archers, ambushes from out of buildings or around corners, plus as the attackers you could have the joy of burning the village to the ground Definitely something I'd like to see

Oh yeah that would be great but they would need to develop the path finding system alot.

Although fun im betting not many battles took place in city's u have to remember there was rules of battle and all that back then.

It is a VERY good idea, but there is a problem :

then AI... I am not talking about strategical/tactital AI, no
just the positionning/unit moving AI.
As soon as you have obstacles, like buildings you will have BIG problems to maintain your troops in formation...

Just remember some STW or MTW maps where you have a cliff in the center of the map and when your unit is 1/2 map long ... not in a 5 x 12 formation, nor a 6 x 10 but a 60 x1 ... lol

IMO, depending of the position of the building, I could be unplayable.

it might work for a squad based game, something like rainbow six on steroids....if you could get it to work that would be awesome...but...

Tactically, if you have 1000 men on a street, only 40 of them can fight eachother at the same time. That would not be very interesting. It would be like playing 6 bridgebattles at a time.

We DO have that in WWII OnLine ; and yes , it is awsome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
The biggest difference between WWII OnLine and the various MOH type games , is numbers {we have hundreds fighting in some battles} and shere scale of the map {the MoH battlefeild would dissapear inside Antwerp for example , and that's merely one city in the western Europe -1/2 scale- that we fight over} .

I would find it interesting with this game , but the mechanics of unit behaviour would need a lot of change I feel .

MTW does not allow unit split(for various reasons). So it would be rather unplayable. Only smaller units, especially Cavalry, would be able to move therein without problem, I think. Having Cavalry ruling the town doesn't seem good to my ears.....

you'd have to keep it to small unit numbers, which at this point in MTW leaves only the Hashishen.

In STW you could have 18 units of Kensai fighting 18 units of Kensai, which was okay.

It was much funnier (?) to have 2-4 Kensai fight a huge army of thousands of men. Just to see how many guys they can take down before dying. Although I remember a few instances when the enemy became disheartened at watching the slaughter and actually routed http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
