Kings and Princes.

They both have Vices and Virtues and Acumen, etc.

But, how do they effect the game?

Not much question re the King's v&v, but what about his Acumen? Does it effect all provinces? Has anyone noticed this?

What about Princes??

Exactly WHAT gets effected by the Prince(s) v&v AND Acumen? Anybody notice anything?

I mean OK, since a Prince will be in charge during battle, his Loyalty and Dread will effect the battle, but haven't noticed anything else to be of effect.

I think Princes s/b able to be assigned as Govenors; Or at least the Province where a Prince(s) resides should be effected.

Focusing on Acumen, say a good govenor dies and/or the present govenor sucks. A player should be allowed to move a Prince over to that province and have that provinces income effected by the Prince's Acumen. A Prince's Acumen should take precedence over a Govenors So, if the Prince has greater Acumen than a Govenor, the Province gets a boost while the Prince is in residence. If the Prince was lower Acumen then the Province takes a hit in income while the Prince is in residence. Once the Prince moves on, the Govenors Acumen comes back into effect.

In fact, in such a situation where the Prince is negatively effecting the Province, the Govenor's Loyalty should be negatively effected as well.

The above scenario should apply to ALL the Prince(s) "characteristics" (can't think of what they're called. not v&v the other stuff), Acumen, Loyalty, Dread, Piety, Influence, etc.

Need to boost your income, got a good Prince, move that him over to that big money making province. Oh no, your being attacked in another province, and you need the Prince to serve as General over there. Gotta move the Prince, but doing will cause a drop in income. Going to be a real costly war.

Sorta raises the stakes don't you all think? The above could apply to the King in some ways too.

Princes become more valuable and the Use of Princes becomes more Strategic.

eventually, a prince steps down from the role of heir to the throne. when that happens, you can then assign a title to him. as for the kings stats and v&v's, yes, his profile effects all of his empire. just remember, when your princes step down from the royal line, don't marry your daughters to them, as they are likely to be your daughter's uncles.

My understanding is once they are no longer heirs you can marry off princesses to them with no ill efects.

No ill effect? I thought the game does track royal blood (for civil war scenario). I thought that inceste is the vice that will turns up.

I think ToranagaSama wrote a good question and there are no answers being given, just dancing around like Trent Lott at an NAACP convention.

WHAT DO PRINCE'S STATS AFFECT? anything?

I had a prince that, out of the blue, got 'Steward' by just sitting in Naples. Why? What was he stewardifying, or stewing, or whatever? I can only assume his acumen was affecting the province, and I really wish I could remember whether or not I built some farmland in Naples while he was stationed there. That's what causes your King and Governors to get Steward as a virtue, I believe.

Oh, and ToranagaSama, loyalty and dread have zero effect on battles. Its been posted about a zillion times and confirmed, if memory serves, by CA. Just FYI, not calling you stupid or anything http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

An ex-heir will usually have a crown to the right of their portrait, signifying royal blood. I think the manual says if you marry your princeeses to royal blood (thier relations) bad things will happen...I never tried it, it's just wrong http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well, the prince's Vices are certainly generated on basis of the province they are stationed in.

I noticed quite early that my princes sometimes got Steward and Builder while still quite young. Then I realized they had been in a certain province for some time and that province had been upgraded with farming and a good number of buildings.

so if yoou build a merchant in a province your kings or heirs are in, does acumen increase?

Acumen might increase in that situation through the 'Trader' set of virtues. Then again, I think that only gives you happiness and trade bonuses...
